Yes, that exact issue dragged me down for a day and a half when I was installing it too!

Couldn't figure out why domain mapping was not showing up under tools until I finally realized that I hadn't renamed and moved my "wordpress-mu-domain-mapping" directory to "mu-plugins" and moved it to the root of wp-content.
I'm so glad that I'm doing all this on a fresh domain and not trying to move my existing blogs until I've figured all this out.  |
