Limited or no connectivity
So, I have this problem with my wireless network. A few times a day, I get disconnected and it says,
"Limited or no connectivity You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer." I have to click repair and sometimes that doesn't work. Any ideas? |

It sounds like your dhcp lease expired and for some reason, you couldn't renew the lease. Are you using DHCP or a fixed IP?

What CD34 said.
The one PC that we have over at Angel's for testing kept on doing this so I put it on manual IP addressing and it hasn't done it since. It's running XP with all the latest updates and she has a Linksys base station. |

what kind of router, how far from the PC with the problem to access point, etc?
The error is saying that you didn't get a DHCP address from the router so your PC ip address isn't on the same network (it will default to a wierd address or none) and thus connectivity is nil, but that could happen for a few reasons not just shitty signal. If signal strength is poor, figure that out (change location of the router even a small movement can help) If its not, go into your device manager delete the network adapter reboot let it reinstall the wireless card in case the install of the card is bugged. A quick "fix" which doesn't solve the real cause but might solve the problem is to not DHCP and to use static IP on the wireless, tons of options. The other fun issues are cordless phones, nextel phones, etc that can futz the signal as well even though some devices technically shouldn't I know from experience they can. 266835420 if you need to walk through anything. |

Really Chris?
I will try that. Another thing...and this is probably just stupid on my part. My wifes laptop has a good connection but her browser and email doesn't connect. |

does her machine get an IP? does it get the SSID name? do you have both wifi networks on separate channels? Is she using the same network that you are? do you have Broadcast SSID on? if not, did you hardcode the SSID? Does she have TCP/IP on the wifi card enabled? Is WEP or WPA enabled? Will Dick and Jane get married?

Secretly, we've replaced Jim's WIFI with new Folgers WIFI.
Lets see if he notices the difference.

Where there's a will, I want to be in it.
|
I had to "throttle down" the bit rate on the network cards on a couple of mine. I don't have a clue what that has to do with the price of tea in China. Linksys walked me through it.
Basically, I just went to the device manager, chose the network card, clicked on the advanded tab, and looked for a setting that had something to do with bit rates. The procedure and options was different on almost all my pc's (5). One pc worked at 10bps, another was different, something like 5-11bps. I just kept selecting a slower rate until it started working. I didn't notice any different in the speed either.

No offence Apu, but when they were handing out religions you must have been out taking a whizz

Not wireless here but for the past month I've been getting the same error - just every now again, usually when I'm in the middle of something important (uploading, talking on ICQ - you know, important!).
Usually the fix is to reboot, disconnect DSL cable and reconnect... then I'm usually good to go for another week or so. ![]() |
