wp themes and plugins...

I have been looking at a few themes, but I haven’t seen much that I like.

I hear many of the themes do not yet work with the new version.

Should I stick with the old version of wp, or use the new one?

Do you all make your designs your self, or do you pay some one to do it?

I tried to use the theme editor on my own site but it is not working out well… I think my skills are limited. That and the fact I do not understand what I am editing.

I was also going to ask what the best plug-ins for wp are, but some one else has a thread along those lines so I guess I can wait and see what you all have to say there…

I have a few “half ass blogs” now. They are more of the basic theme, and then just try to post my latest free sites a few times a month. I thought trying it out this way would help me learn what to do, but it is not so much really…

I am going on about all of this because I bought some new domains to setup blogs on. I thought I would try to get serious, and see if you have some tuts I can read.

I guess that is a lot of questions so answer them if you have time…

Depending on how comfortable you are with making a design with html, this tutorial may come in handy.

http://www.techwench.com/wp/entry/wo...e_cheet_sheet/

It was written for WP 1.5, but I've followed those steps to make 2.0 blogs as well. It's not that hard. After I did 1 or 2 blogs this way, I checked out the template tags in the wordpress codex and started playing with those and putting the ones I wanted in to the proper places in my html. Now I can make a crappy blog skin as well as anyone

As for finding a good skin. I've googled a bunch of times and never found anything I liked, or that was suitable for what I was doing. I imagine you've been through the few hundred that pop up in the search results as well without being impressed. So, unfortunately, I don't know where the secret cache of cool, usable, wordpress themes is.
