Your oldest FS that still produce sales

Someone once told me that if you make 1000 freesites, you are guaranteed a constant stream of revenue. His theory was that once out there, it's enough for each such FS to generate 1-2 sales a year for you to get something like $30-$50k a year.

Now, I don't have 1000 FS out there, only 100+ and I can see some flaws in that theory already. IMO, freesites are not forever (as they are marketed to be - "opposed" to galleries). Linklists disappear, sponsors disappear, your sites are taken off archives with some LL's or simply placed where the sun never shines. With ratios being what they are these days, I say you can't expect old FS over one year old to be making 1-2 sale a year on average.

Thoughts? I was wondering what do the people who have been submitting FS for years and years have to say about this.
