Reviewless Link Submission
In order to help alleviate my legendary review lag at Pervespace.com, I've added a new semi-automatic submission page running parallel to the standard page. Using the new page, your link will be listed without review during the next build cycle. The new submission page is linked at the top of the current submission page. I'll add it to the admin navigation later today.
The catches:
If you simply can't think of a decent description, you can still use the standard submission page and let your link ferment for many, many months. (I'm kidding.)(Ok, I'm not kidding.) Some submission accounts will be removed, based on trust, quality, etc. I'll be adding some hints about writing descriptions and tags pretty soon. NO, this is NOT a good time to request a submission account.

Thats a good idea man.
Over the years I've many times mocked up in my head a similar kind of approach to a linklist. I doubt the wife has any polka dot panties, let alone ones that would fit me. So I'm left out on this offer I guess. |

A whopping two submitters have dared to use the new submission form. The first one, Ponygirl, did a fantastic job. Amazing actually. (Don't worry, PG, I don't expect them to be that good all the time - or ever. It was really, really good.)
EDIT: LadyD used the new form while I was posting this and her description was also quite delicious. Thank you The second submitter shall remain anonymous, but the description that person submitted is pretty much what I expected and very much what I was worried about. Quote:
"asian" is spelled Asian. In other words, it should always be capitalized, as should Japanese and Chinese. The larger issue here is that everything following the first line is nothing more than a sloppy morph of that first line. I really think that there is something wrong if you cannot come up with a 200 character description of the content you are working with. This is what 200 characters looks like: Quote:
Also, I beg of you, do not keyword stuff your descriptions. Be more fluffy. I promise I'll create a tutorial of sorts for writing descriptions. This goes out to all of my submitters: I do not mean to sound arrogant, but I don't think that I'm setting the bar very high here - and if you can't meet my expectations, you should probably not bother submitting to me in the future. I don't have the time to tutor anyone or communicate with every submitter who repeatedly fails to meet my quality standards, and I definitely don't have the time to edit really bad descriptions, so I'll probably end up removing several submission accounts. If you fear the loss of your account, you can continue to use the normal submission form, but that review queue isn't going to get any shorter. Also, if you are of the mind that I am asking too much, then you are probably submitting to the wrong list. No hard feelings - just being honest.

Glad my description passed muster. I was a little worried seeing as how I was writing it at 5:30 am and knowing that I'm not even half as witty as you!

hehe thanks UW I guess you just bring out the perve in me
I like the new system, it reminds me of doing a blog post, only I don't have to feel guilty if I don't do them regularly I LOVE the big descriptions you do, it's one of the things that makes your site so different. As for submitters, if you can do it I think you should. It might take a little while the first time or two but once you get going, it's a lot of fun to do a 200 character (or more) description of your free site instead of trying to cram everything into 70 and not sound like all the others! I do think in the long run it will be worth the effort. Do what UW said, surf the site for a while and take a look at the other descriptions - you'll get some ideas and after a while when you can't stop reading the good ones, you'll also see why it works I hope this works out for you, Useless. I'd love to see you keep the Perve while you're out in the real world, if only just to have something to keep you (two) obligated to visit with us once in a while |

Submissions are plummeting, so I must be on the right track.
So far, the only description that I've had any issue with is the one I posted above - and I had several issues with that one. One of my valued advisors speculated that the posting of a submitter's real description, as I had, would have an adverse affect on submissions or, at least, the use of the new form, and he was right - but that's ok. As arrogant as it may sound, I really only want submissions from people who can see how this site is special and is not an ordinary link list. In the near future, I am most likely going to add more accounts for those who feel comfortable with writing a 2-3 sentence (or one line run-on) description who also create quality free sites and/or galleries. I was asked what is going to happen to my oldest list, Whoring Wives (turn up the volume), as I continue to retreat from my online responsibilities. Honestly, I haven't given it much thought. I suppose I'll either add some type of automation to it as well, or hire a third-world reviewer for it. The worst thing you can do to a link list is stop updating, so I'll have to figure it out.

Question: I have submitted about 20 sites the last 20 days, can you remove them?
I would like to resubmit these with the long description; or is there a way around it? |

For those wondering, this was handled via PM yesterday. All is good and Tek's descriptions have also exceeded my expectations.

Tagging seems to be a more prevalent issue than the descriptions at this point, so here are some pointers (I've added two pages in the admin with my thoughts on tagging and descriptions.).
Most submissions have been completely problem free, so I'm still feeling positive about how things are developing. In case you haven't figured it out, you won't get an acceptance email when using the new submission form. Your submission will simply be automatically listed during the next build cycle. Also, you won't receive notice if I choose to delete your submission if you've messed up the tags or description so severely that I don't want it listed any longer. Submitter laziness or ignoring site policies are the only situations that will cause that. PLEASE tell me if you find any part of the new process confusing or if there is a need for more instructions. I want to get the bumps smoothed out ASAP. I realize that some of the issues may be caused by a lack of information on the site, so I want to know what is lacking.

Wow.. what a great project. I am kind of glad you won't be testing my written skills, UW. Makes my favorite site even better, and I don't have to lift a finger except to click on the mouse!!!

Ya know, it just might grow on you in a way that you can't leave it behind. You break no laws, you violate no ethics. Turn your domains private and have at it!! Hell if you ask nice, I might even pretend to be a third world reviewer and work for the experience to keep the other place alive. At least I don't have to write creatively!

I'm mostly keeping an eye on the site to see how my partners are reacting to the sudden increase in freedom -- not only the reviewless submission, but the new blogging platform as well. I see that 3 links were listed yesterday! I spend a certain amount of time each day grinding my teeth while attempting to accept the decrease in my quality standards so that things like people not capitalizing every important word in a title won't drive me nuts. If I feel that quality is dipping too low, I'll hit the self-destruct button, then dance in the ashes. What other option is there, really? What I should have done was delete all the "non-preferred" submitter accounts before I launched the changes. But for now, I'll sit back and analyze what's being listed: read descriptions, check tags, check recip groupings, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

The site still looks awesome. Perhaps my eye isn't as finely honed as yours, but it does appreciate your hard work and your bravery. If you feel the quality slipping nudge the slackers out - change the submit page. You have a site that is unique, and is so you. Still is my favorite place to hang out when I get free time.
