![]() In several posts here I read things like "post at this GreatLinkList.com" for good search engine traffic...
Wouldn't it be better if I submit my own Free Site at DMOZ and GOOGLE (and others if I could be bothered)? Anyhow: I just added both on top of my link page and submitted the first site I built. And I plan to do that with everyone of them... I understand that once Google finds my link on your LinkLists my page popularity is most likely to go up, but I would still think that I have to do the first step. Am I wrong?

Search engines are like ants looking for piles of crumbs. Link lists are big piles of tasty crumbs. Your free site is just one crumb.

If you want to know about dmoz do a board search, there are a few good threads about it.. And also it may take a year or so to get a dmoz listing if you even get one.. And as far as submitting to SE - I quit doing it a good while ago they will find it and infact some say its better to have them find you..

And for a while (a good 4 months) one of these sites held a First Page Result for "free porn" on Google (varied a little over the months: from #4 down to #12 position, until I had to stop updating)... Also last year I took my heart and complained to Google about people spamming my site name with completely un-related sites (from warez sites to pop-up hells), and ever since I enjoy at least #1 and #2 spots for my site/domain name (where I used to be before on page 3-5 of the results!) In closing: I actually believe it's worth the effort to submit and keep on good terms with SEs. Since I'm at it: did anybody else notice increased traffic from AltaVista? My TGP galleries get suddenly almost 1/3 of their SE hits from AltaVista ~ not that I'm complaining....

George, it isn't a question of "this" or "that". Search engines (especially google) are NOT impressed by just submitting. They are impressed other things on your site and other things about people who link to you.
In all fairness, there is but 10-20 good SE spots per term. There are thousands of link sites, and enough of them have traffic to make me happy. So, who knows? :-) Alex |

I've always been told it's better if the search engine finds you - I do still submit to dmoz, but some of the categories are no longer edited or some know who I am & don't list me - LOL But every now & then, I get one in there & it's worth the 5 min it takes to submit it
