Awstats, who uses it and whats your likes and dislikes from it.
I use it and I'm not sure if this software is 100% on the money. I guess you get what you pay for. My time stamps always are screwed up. One day they are correct, next day they are screwy. Plus I hate that it wont give you stamps on http status codes, connection from sites, and the pages.
I have been looking over whoson.com and I think I'm going to buy this stuff. The $300 price tag for the remote version is a little pricy but man it's real nice and seems more on the money then awstats. Works on IIS an Apache. |

I like AWStats very much for something and it is sooo pretty too.
It sucks at telling you daily info and I just discovered Wusage after my new host was nice enough to install them for me. They are butt ass ugly but show things like daily who is sending me the most traffic, time of visit, exit pages, referral URL and tons of other info. Seems like no one stats program does it all so I went with a host that gave me AWStats, Wusage, and Analog. |

Cleo, you're getting time of visit on Wusage? hmmm, I need to talk the guy that installed ours. I'm trying to remember if I was getting it when we had it on our first host, 4 years ago.
Wusage does have great daily stats. I love them, and asked for Wusage specifically.

I think the only people that aren't using Wusage are those that have never tried it. The reports may not be pretty but who cares? The reports are accurate, it's cheap and support is pretty good.

ahh those. I was more interested in times for the autorized users and top visitor sites. Had times for those in the last stats and it makes it easier (for me) to match up things when someone is trying something funky.

On the only domain where I would have authorized users, foxyangel.com, we use Strongbox and it doesn't use htaccess authorization so there is nothing to report in my stats.

I liked awstats until I read this thread. Now that I know wusage will give me daily, I may switch.
In the meantime, check your awstats conf file. Contact your host and tell them you think something is up with timestamps and you dont think the clock is keeping time accurately. - |

Well man I am really pushing this whoson today. When I was demo-ing it over the past few days the things I liked about it were. 1) I can remote access it from a webpage or a client. I don't like to remotedesktop to my server all the time. 2) any funny business someone is trying on the site can be locked down automaticly. Ie user tries to access restricted pages or directories more then XXX amount of times = block user. You set that amount. It will also mail you and a 2nd party if you want. It gives you who is, dns, reverse dns etc. Their is a chat section for live support on your site or what ever you want to use it for. You can dynamicly invite who ever is on your site to chat. Which might be nice to tell the bad guys you are watching. But anyway I'm sure it's not the end all be all but man it has alot of features. Ok enuffff with promoting them. lol.

I get hits and BW used with awstats but I don't see the URLs of my top referrals for the day with awstats.
I was using Analog just for daily top referrals but Wusage gives me this and so much more. |

Are you guys hosting your own server? Or with a company? I think that may be the issue. If your getting hosted someplace you should call them cause they are not giving you all the functions of that software. Or maybe its a linux/unix thing. I get all this info
If you guys want to see what I get go here. It's not locked down http://www.jollycams.com/stats When I installed this it was some what easy and most of the functions that come with it standard were just either a 1 or 0 to enable. If your hosting company is not enableing everything well I dont think thats right cause i Know most people have to pay for the stats service and should get every stat that the software offers. |

What Cleo said.
I should explain better. I can see daily and hourly hits and requests. But any another other info goes into a running total for the month. I dont look at log stats everyday. I want/need to be able to see what happened yesterday or even the day before. If I can drill down to the day, like yesterday or last week. I havent figured out how. - |

I'm doing both. With the webhosts, I load my own copy of Awstats and setup the conf file myself. - |

Yeah that is 1 of the few bad things about the software, not being able to drill down. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying this software is great. I seemed to me from the posts that some of the people are/were not getting some of the features with this package. You should know like I do that getting those features is simple. Now is someone whats the geo stuff then I can see an issue as its the pm that needs to be installed. I'm still thinking of getting the geo-city pm but at this point I don't know cause I trust the stats from the software about 70%. And when I look over the updates for that db I just don't know if its worth it. Jugg..

Barron,
I think the issue is: Who were your top referrering sites on the 9th of May? Try doing that in Awstats on May 15th. ![]() There are very few packages that keep the data in a detailed enough format to give you that data. If the 9th of May had a lot of signups, you could go back and figure out what happened differently that day. AWStats does give you referrer stats, but, you cannot break it down and look at last Monday's data today.

Well being I have full access to my server I can do that. I'm not playing devils advocate here. Heres what I do for anyone that has access. Over the past 49 hours I have backed up all my logs as to start fresh. But when I merge the logs with the bat files at the end of the day the file also copies the html generated pages to a differant directory. This way I can go back to that day. But you are all 100% correct the drill down feature is just not there. I know all this seems like allot of work to do in order to get certain features but the most work I did was writing the bats. Which are simple dos commands. What I really hate about it is there is no orginization if you dont copy the html someplace else for that day. Cause it will just give you a boat load of dates that are just all over the place. The only thing you can do if you have not copied the html or can't copy it or run bat files is copy and paste the darn text from the stats and then and put it notepad and open it in excel and then sort the cells. Which really sucks. Now here i go again with that whoson software. All these features are there. I know free open source software is great but sometimes, just sometimes a pay package is better. Seriously look it over. Its not bad at all. Anyway I will talk to my friend who is a serious nerd programmer and see if he can write something that can help this awstats problem. Maybe something that will export to an access db or xml. But getting him off the ass from watching SG1 is a whole other issue. Jugg..

We use them and they have been a huge problem on this server. If we didn't have to use them, we wouldn't.

Just because AWStats has something called daily reports does not mean it's really a daily report. Try using AWStats to tell you something simple like how many hits came from came from that top gallery spot you purchased on January 10?

AWstats...
Greenie has to use them for the link list. And there have been plenty of times where National Net just wants to shut them down. But, Greenie needs them so we move on. ![]() |

Wheither you think you can or you think you can't, Your right.

I like wusage because it shows hits down to every page on your domain. Nice to look back on older sites for traffic or not. You can see what traffic each page is getting, not just the top 25, ect. And of course referring urls for the traffic.

Nat Net said that the log files for link-o-rama.com were taking too long to compile in AW so they changed me over to Webalizer which is not that bad.

I have a simple solution for the guys who have time and like numbers (like me
![]() ![]() Btw... one major issue that I do have with Awstats (or any other for that matter) is that there is no single place to check the subdomain stats ![]() |
