Linklist Reviewers... This questions is for you.
Hi everyone.
I have a couple of questions about a couple of ads on one of my freesites. On the index page here: http://www.pron-star.com/05/drunk-babes/, The 468 banner has thumbs on it, is it ok to link this banner or should I leave it unlinked, and only link the text link underneath it? I was told this might be considered blind with the banner linked, because it has thumbs on it. On the main page at the top here: http://www.pron-star.com/05/drunk-babes/main.html The very top banner has thumbs in it, same thing... Is it blind to link this? Thanks for anyone who takes the time to look at this and respond. |

Those are obviously banners IMHO so you can link them as far as I'm concerned.

What might get your site rejected is the "enter here" text on it..
and the way I review for my site and what another LL owner said about blindish looking banners with thumbs and we agree.. Is if there is text under the banner then most times its ok and the banner says the pay site with the thumbs is ok, but then again if the banner is on the edge of blind and the site doesnt have unique content then it gets rejected.. |

Both banners are clearly advertising so I wouldn't have a problem with either. That said I have been rejected in the past for using similar banners in which case the choice is to find a less offensive banner or revise your submit list.

Thanks to everyone that has replied so far. I guess it's like anything else, some will like it, some won't. To me, it never crossed my mind those would be blind, but sometimes i have a hard time noticing I just put up a blind link. Still learning everyday.

Arghhhh...submit yer sites ya ruddy swabs!

For me, text over and/or under the banner makes it pretty clear it's an advertisement. Especially if the banner in question has the site name on it.
That said, there are a few sponsors making banners now that just look like a series of thumbs...with no text on em at all. Put those on a gallery page...with no defining text...that's asking for problems imo. |

I think it's pretty obvious that it's a banner so not a problem for me... but having said that I've had some of my own sites rejected by the odd reviewer for having not too dissimilar types of banners on them.
Some people do seem to have a 'clickable thumb fixation' which overcomes common sense. In my opinion the only reason to reject a site for a clickable thumb is if it is a deliberate attempt to mislead, primarily by linking what is obviously a thumb to the sponsor site.

When it's obvious that it's a banner I have no problem with it. Those two pages look fine to me

Well you know boys, a nuclear reactor is a lot like women. You just have to read the manual and press the right button

I recognize I will have to update my mind as a LL's reviewer.
I think it is a good point of view to not reject a site if this kind of banners looks clearly as advertisements. I will stick to it. Thanks! Mcbethar |

They are not a problem for me, as long as they're clearly banners.
That said - I have noticed that I have higher than average click-through on banners with "thumbs", with no corresponding increase in sales. So, while we assume they're "obviously" advertisements, I'm not sure most surfers are that smart. I've started weaning myself away from banners-as-links, trying to use them as graphical elements instead, and using text to get the click. But...I can't say that's necessarily working out so well, so far, so feel free to ignore me. |
