It is, or was, agaisnt the law to gather intelligence on U.S. citizens without direct authorization of the DIRNSA (Director, National Security Agency). These attacks on the former freedoms of Americans have nothing to do with tracking terrorism, but are thinly veiled attempts to monitor upheavals of the citizenry as we creep closer and closer towards Fascism. You guys realize that we aren't ever going to have another presidential election, right?
What, me worry?

Here's how the FBI handled the students movements back in the 60s when we were protesting the Vietnam war and civil rights violations - just some background - the SDS (students for a democratic society) did have some people involved that wanted a little more violence than most of the members - most as well as the hundreds of thousands of people involved in the peaceful moratoriums we had in Wash DC, really didnt see violence as leading to anything good - we tried our best to keep it peaceful - but the cops usually changed that for us

We moved to California 17 years ago. My thinking at the time was "how wonderful to bring my children up in an atmosphere of freedom and tolerance."
Oops. That, like so many other decisions I've had the misfortune to make, didn't work out so well. It's only going to get worse. Most people aren't aware - or chose not to be aware - of how quickly their rights are being eroded.

I had a really big arguement with my parents last night over government. They still live in this "all is fine world" my old man wanted to hear nothing about how the war was based totaly on oil. When I ask him how many friends he has over there telling him whats going on, he says they just dont want to be there an are crying about it. What really started to wake me up was about 1 year ago the 1st lady was speaking someplace an the protestors were all arrested. They were on public property but still apparently anyplace the pres or 1st lady go, the SS (ironic name) has martial law. Any one at any time with in 200 yards can be taken in for any reason they see fit. They do not have to give a reason at all. Just pick you up an take you away. Shame of it all. Is this was never, ever what this country was founded on. The only law I still like here is the right to bare arms. But that too is slowly going away. Guess they are trying to make sure any up rising wont be met with mom and pop shot guns around every corner.

juggernaut - thats why no one (well at least no one in the press) said anything about the demonstrations put on by the mothers and their kids in the northwest on a presidential visit where a bunch of them were arrested or moved by police in riot gear (this included babies in strollers) - because they were within earshot of the motorcade as it drove through their town - and ended up staying for dinner after being guaranteed by the local state police that they would keep protestors away.

Right on all fronts, Linkster. What happened in Oregon was indicitive of the tactics that have been taken over the past 5 years.
i was surfing the other day looking for quotes to put in my blog rotator and came across this one.. and after sitting here for a few minutes in shock thinking about it, i really do believe that GWB and his hench-persons have subscibed to this way of thinking: "Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."--Hermann Goering 4/18/46-- (1893-1946) Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe, President of the Reichstag, Prime Minister of Prussia and, as Hitler's designated successor, the second man in the Third Reich. |
