movie debate "rushmore"

ok, i'm no rocket scientist. however, i do think than i am a little brighter than the average load you might see picking his nose and eating the reward at the local bus stop. movie watching and discussing is something i enjoy. my girlfriend told me to rent rushmore; staring bill murray and jason schwartzman. co-written by owen wilson, directed by wes anderson. she and many others, i have discovered, think this is the greatest movie ever made..or at least in their top ten. i understand that it is supposed to be a "smart" and quirky movie. i enjoy the "smart" quirky movie. sideways, annie hall, for example. my question is, if you share this high opinion of rushmore, can you please tell me why you like it so much??? my opinion of the movie is that jason schwartzman did a great job playing the unlikable, underachieving prep-school nerd. bill murray was great as the lost, "i'm going through a mid-life crisis" guy............again.
i did chuckle at moments, there were a few good jokes in this average comedy. but in the end, i thought that it was very predictable school age comedy. i'd take fast times or welcome to the dollhouse over this movie any day. by the way, the jerk and blazing saddles are two of the funniest movies ever made. |clown|

I think you would have gotten more replies if it was still 1998

He's from NJ...commenting on a movie from 1998 is about right if you factor in the NJ lag for anything current.

As for Rushmore...It was a decent movie, I don't think it was Bill Murray's best movie, but I don't think Bill Murray has made his best movie yet.

Based on the hair styles and the amount of fire birds on the roads from my last few trips to NJ, I'm surprised the movie has even been released yet. Seems like 2 decades is more appropriate

I'm going to have to go rent this since it came out during a time when I didn't watch movies. However, I've yet to see a Bill Murray movie I didn't like.

if you didn't like Rushmore don't bother watching Royal Tennenbaums or Life Aquatic.

Wes Anderson has a unique sensibility when it comes to comedy. Definitely not for everybody. You might like Bottle Rocket, his first film, which is somewhat easier to laugh along with.

I tend to agree with those people who put Rushmore on top 10 list. I hate lists but if I had to have one Rushmore would be up there...

I didn't like the movie much, but I agree with you about "The Jerk" - love that one!

Rushmore is the kind of movie I watch if I cant find any thing else on TV.

It is not great, and it is not bad. It helps my life go by faster.
