Hi everyone. I was surfing through a few link lists just now checking out what other people are submitting and such. I came across a free site that had the exact same recip table as me. I'm not really perterbed by it, but I do have to say it took me some time searching for quality LL's to submit to and making up a recip table that I think looks nice with the sites I submit. This free site has the exact same code for their recip tables as me (right down to my HTML comments), and I'm not using the recips provided by LL's. I made the table myself. I Spent a good number of hours when I started doing free sites looking for lists and reading (yes, actually reading) the rules of each one. The rest of the site looks nothing like my sites, so I'm not really mad, just wondering if this is considered kosher or not.

I'm wondering if this is common practice, if it's rude, or if I'm just being overly pissy about it because a few link lists declined my last site. I think it was declined because of problems with the recip, even though they've listed other sites of mine with the exact same recip table. It looks like they also just copied and pasted the CSS to go with it too.

I don't know, taking inspiration from someone is one thing, but copying and pasting code... Am I just being childish by being a little bothered?

Thanks guys. I didn't want to call anyone out in case I was just crying over spilled milk since it's only the recip table and not my designs. I'm just a bit touchy about it today because the guy has deprecated HTML tags throughout his site while I try to use only valid XHTML. The reason why I bring this up is that this morning I got a rejection notice because my recip table went wayyy off the side of the screen. This would only happen if the CSS was not proper.

So, I'm wondering if the owner of the link list meant to reject a site other than mine because when I checked my site in 4 different browsers, the table rendered fine. This person also promotes the same sponsors as me, so a rejection like this would be an honest mistake on the part of the reviewer.

So true. While I don't know what LL owners have to deal with I reckon it is similar to when I reviewed galleries for my old TGP.

I hope no one took it as I was bashing on the reviewer. I'm grateful for all the free traffic I can get and wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. My main goal is just to submit what owners actually want to approve. Win - Win right there. I know recips are important to the LL owners, so I want to make sure I'm doing it right.

Hey Odysseus,

The more you submit to any given link list, the reviewers will get to know you. After that happens, we start becoming very protective of our good submitters, and many of us go out of our way to let our good submitters know when we see someone ripping off their designs. Since I don't really know you or your work at this point all I can say is that lazy fuckers who can't even be bothered to build their own sites or write their own code are a blight on this industry, and you have every right to get pissed.

Thanks for the encouragement MadMax. I've only been doing this for about a month now, so I still need to establish a reputation as not being a douchebag, and build a good rep with everyone. I'm working on adding more LL's to my routine this week, so you'll likely end up seeing my name in your submissions in the near future.

And you have every right to be pissed about someone pilfering your code. Now that you've brought this issue to light, I'll be on the lookout in my admin for anyone using exact dups of your table...I actually kinda like banning cheating scum

I would be posting one of my sites and a link to one of theirs so that the LL owners can see who the cheater is - that is definitely something we would ban that other person for so dont feel bad calling them out - we have had LL owners do similar things where they copied another LLs recips and we got together and posted here we wouldnt accept free sites that had recips to these other LLs - we would definitely appreciate the info

What gets me is the directories are all the same also, so he not only copied your recips he copied your dir structure. Recips are a pain in the ass at first but once you get them set up their easy so this guy is just being lazy.

Weird- the site looks good to me in both Firefox and IE at 800x600. Maybe it falls to shit at higher resolutions.

Yea...very strange...just checked it in IE and FF...looks fine here too at 800x600 and 1280x1024.
