Submission forms not submitting...

I'm trying to submit a free site to several link links, but the majority of the submission forms aren't submitting, including LOR. I get "waiting..." for 10 minutes or so before it stops or I close it out. I doubt it could be the link sites' fault, since it's a recurring problem, but I've tried it on 3 different machines, running 98SE and XP and using IE and Firefox, but have the same problems, so I have a hard time believing it's local settings. (All 3 machines are routed through the same cable connection, though). Any clue what's going on? Any way to confirm if the submission went through? I don't want to send multiple submissions hoping it will eventually work...

The site is:
http://www.sportsfetish.com/flexiblegirls/index.htm

Thanks a lot,

Logan

It's a know problem where the server you're submitting to can't connect to the server that your site is on in time & thus, it times out.

None of us have any idea how to solve it

Thanks for the reply. That sucks. So should I keep trying until it goes through, or would I risk getting banned by multiple attempts?

Unless the next page comes up (instead of the page that comes up when it times out) then the submit doesn't go thru, so there's no worry of being tagged as a multi-submitter.

I have heard some people that have tried at different times of the day or over & over & eventually the submit does go thru, so you can give it a shot.

Just a side note: You might want to take the counter code off your page before resubmitting...

I knew I forgot something. I started a thread about that before, installed the stats myself on my server, and then forgot to take off sexcounter. Thanks for letting me know! I just took it off.

Firewall

Model
I had a similar problem with a few LL's.
The problem was my Zone Alarm firewall.
I now have to disable the firewall and the submits go through ok.
And I know about bloody counters now!!

I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't work in my case. I've been submitting constantly since just before I started this thread (3 days), but Link-o-Rama and Smut Gremlins refuse to go through. I think it's time to give up, unless there's another way to submit (email, etc). I did get listed on Persian Kitty, though, so that's cool.

GreenGuy, is there any other way to submit other than the form?

It may be if you are on a shared or virtual server that they are just as slow as shit. I had this problem and was so fed up after a while I changed. Some shared servers (usually the unix ones) are lightening fast, others can take a few seconds to decide what image to serve and which of the drives in their raid array the file is on and so on. Try clearing your browser cache and clicking on a link to the pages you are submitting. I just looked at your site and considering I am on 2 meg broadband your thumbnails do take a long time to load compared with other sites. If the submissions script is one that checks images then this will be where the timeout is.

I doubt if it's your hosting. I have several domains on the same host that I build free sites on. Some domains work with that script and some don't. Don't ask me why I didn't write the script.

If that makes a difference, then I'll know it's my older server. I don't want long term sites on a server that the LL can't find; If the LL does automated recip/status checking, I imagine my site could be removed because of the timeouts. Not that I really know what I'm talking about, but it sounds logical to me.

This is a dedicated server and currently only that domain is on it (I moved everything else to a new server). However, I have had problems with it in terms of speed and reliability, which is why I moved. I figured it would be a good server to experiment with tgp and free sites, since I had no idea what kind of traffic to expect and didn't want to tap out my new one. I did try clearing my cache, as well as using IE and Firefox and even Windows 98 and XP Pro on 3 difference machines. Nothing helps. Both servers are Windows based. This one is 2000 and the new one is 2003.

It may not be, but I'll experiment with the next one and see if I can figure something out. I'm chaining myself to my computer for the next few months. lol.

If I remember correctly windoze 2000 servers do not defragment in the background and also leave file stubs in the directory (at a disc level) for directories even after deletion. It may be that even if you have deleted all your old stuff if you did not do a complete reformat or a defrag then your new stuff is scattered all over the place. If you did not delete it and you have not a lot of space on your HD then defrag! It may also be that you have a bad sector of disc space that the OS has detected and knows to skip but is not marked as bad in your drive partition table. I was told this would be fixed on later builds of Windoze by microsoft but changed to Eunuchs which cured the problem. I still have a couple of bad patches on my disc (and have had for the last two years) but since they are not growing and Eunuchs handles it well I am leaving well alone. Yes I know i will need a new drive eventually!

Interesting possibility which I didn't think about. I never deleted the old stuff in case I wanted to switch a domain back, for whatever reason, but I've got 62 GB free. I'm doing a defrag now, but will keep the old stuff up for now. I'll post the results here in case someone else is interested.
