Changing DNS

I am planning to change hosts soon and was wondering how long does it take to change DNS nameservers to another host? Will my sites be down, and if yes ,how long on average?

When I do change dns settings, should I post about it here?

Thanks

It usually takes about 48-72 hours for DNS to propogate completely. As long as you leave your sites up on the old host until then, you should not have any down time.

The only catch, is that any updates done on the new host will not be visible to those still getting the old DNS info until it updates. Just don't make any major changes for a few days and you should be set.
