Same as Surfin I have a prescription designed specifically for the computer.
I get by with normal reading glasses for books and papers.

I own a pair that I got some years ago but almost never use them.

My eyes are surprisingly good still and I can read small print and also see far away without glasses.

No more headaches from the computer screen since switching to a 23" LCD set to 1152x720.

Yep...damn damn damn...too many years looking at small numbers on pages...or looking at computer screens. For my 41st bday...had to go get reading glasses. Now, I have a pair for the computer...and a slightly stronger pair for reading. Distance vision is still fine...it's the up close stuff that's all fuzzy.

Really sucks when working on stuff around the house to have to put on my damn glasses to see little stuff up close...grrrr.

Yes, old age sucks! And NOT the good kinda suckin either!

Tommy, I remember the day it dawned on me that I needed glasses I was sitting in a restaurant parking lot starring at a Thomas Guide with my arms fully extended and still couldn't read the map, I was 40. My imediate solution was to buy the Large Print Thomas Guide, that worked for a couple years. I finale got tired of the headachs and struggling to read any thing that wasn't large print, went and got tested and glasses at 42, ten years latter I would be more inclined to forget my wallet than my reading glasses when going anywhere.

So has anyone done the eye laser or surgery? My neighbor did it and no longer needs glasses. He isn't great at reading fine print but he can read the computer screen very well.

Welcome to being 40. I've had perfect eye site all my life and I can still read road signs 100 yards before anyone else but when things are up close I can't see squat. I have 2 pairs that I use. One pair is shaded on days when I'm getting lotsw of eye strain and the other are just standard nonglare glasses. I got the first pair right before Tatiana was born. I'm at 1.5 now

Tommy, the other question can be the size of your screen, distance, and other issues. You may find that your screen is a little too far or a little too small. As you get older, everything gets a little harder.

I moved to a 20 inch monitor a while back, and I am very happy with it.

My Sis had the lasix done (along with countless nips and tucks, peels, and other such torture through the years)

Seemed to work great for a few years, and she still can see distance well, but her close vision is back to worse then mine.

And believe me my prescription computer glasses are a blessing.
I can use my simple magnified reading glasses and can even see clearly on my laptop, but after a few hours I do notice strain. With the computer glasses I do not get headaches even after 12 hour stints on the computer.

Here is a link about Computer Glasses

Since I'm legally blind without glasses or contacts, yup I need glasses for the computer. But when I hit about 42, I ended up with progressive lenses, they have a section for reading, then a mid range built for computers, plus they have anti-glare to cut down on problems with glare from the screen. I rarely get headaches from reading anymore. They REALLY help with the computer. Of course, it helps I have dual monitors too with 2560x1024 resolution too.

Tommy, you might be developing an astigmatism, which I've heard people that look at a computer alot are more prone to get. I know mine has gotten worse over the years. Check this out:
http://www.vision-training.com/Visio...ism%20test.htm
If you have astigmatism, some of the lines will look distorted, darker, or lighter when they should all look even. Good quick test to see if that is what is happening.

I'd LOVE to get lasix, but I have an eye condition on my right eye that causes my vision to be unstable, so I'm not eligable.

I'd been nearsighted & wearing glasses or contacts since I was 8. 1st surgery corrected me to 50/20, which was a HUGE improvement over my 400/20 "legally blind without glasses" past.

I went in for my yearly check-up & they said they could do it again (at a discount) and now I'm down to 25/20 & I don't even remember what it was like to wake up with my contacts still in

I wear progressive lenses too.. and actually I've got "diabetic cataracts"... but like a level 1 on a scale of 1-10.. the MD said if I wait I can get lasik to correct my sight when they do the cataracts but it will be a long time...

I have a pair of "computer" glasses... they really help my vision when I'm at the PC...

In general, my vision isn't great b/c of my diabetes..

That is about what I am, I thought about just having my left eye done, since I don't have the adies pupil in that eye, and my astigmatism is so bad, I can't wear contacts very well, they tend to shift and go out of focus. Funny, my eye with the adies pupil, I can wear a contact and see about 1,000 times better than glasses, go figure.

GG, how bad is that surgery? I just figure watching a laser beam zapping your eye and I can't picture holding still for that procedure.

I hate the adies pupil, develped it in my 20s when I looked in the mirror and saw my right pupil dialated and my left pinpoint. Thought for sure I had a brain tumor. I couldn't read with my right eye, can't stand bright light. It takes that eye about 5x as long to adjust to light changes as my left eye. It calmed down finally, but if I cover my left eye, my right eye will dialate like it is covered...it is a real bitch trying to get my eye corrected to normal vision, because the pupil just doesn't want to react right. Fortunately, being left handed, I'm left "eyed" too so I don't notice how fuzzy the vision is in that eye unless my left eye is blocked by something.

I guess I'm lucky, I'll be 46 this year and my eye sight & libido are still functioning fine. I dread the day when my site gets weak and I have to take “boner pills” |shocking|

Looking back, it wasn't bad at all. They numb up your eyes & all you really see is a bright red light/dot. The rest of the day is horrible if you see any bright light & you have to wear goggles when you sleep for a few days so that you don't rub your eyes.

6 hours of moderate pain followed by 3 or 4 days of being annoyed followed by years & years of not having to worry about glasses or contacts is well worth it IMHO.
