Smart Car Question
If a redneck went to Canada and purchased a smart car, would it be legal to drive it back to Mississippi? Once I got it here could I legally drive it on public roads?

Hotty Totty, who in the hell is BlueMoney. When I got the email about your reply, I knew you had to be from a SEC state.

Most cars in Canada and the US are compatible for the local driving needs. The car would likely have to be tested but all should be good. In Ontario for example the car would have to pass an emissions test.
And if we bring a car back to Canada we have to pay duty/taxes on it as I'm sure you do too. |

Ramster, I think I want one of those little two seat jobs to run around the lake in but occasionally go on public roads. Do you think any use ones are available? I know that the US have not approved them but there are some in the states already. Hell, they have to be as safe as a Harley
The roadster was neat but they quit making them in 2005. |

I've been through this once before :-(
The US will consider you to be officially importing the vehicle. It will be impounded and inspected to ensure that it meets EPA and Federal safety standards. Plan to spend a week or so in a border town while this is happening. The simplest way to accomplish it is to have a Canadian purchase it, drive it to you and then sell it to you down there. This way it really only has to meet MS safety standards, which as we both know are non existant-lol. There is no waiting list up here for the cars, there are several on every Mercedes lot. |
