Organisation and Adding Links
Hi
I often aask myself which way I should organise link partners. For example, you have the larger link directories and blog xxx directories etc. Would you have one Link Category for them on your side bar, and then another for 'Link Partners' or "Friends Sites", or would you just put them all in together? And what sort order do you sort them in your Link Category, how about sorting via 'updated'? Adding link exchanges, I read many places that slowly adding one a day is the go, but this seems ridiculously slow, what about adding 5 link partners a day? One more question is do you add your partners via Wordpress or put the code straight into the html? Thanks once again :-) |

I think that depends on what is important to you. If for example think that the "relation" with another blog/webmaster is more important then the amount of traffic that a blog send then you should place the links that point to your friends blog at the top. If you are trading traffic then you should put the blog that brings in the most traffic at the top.
You can indeed also split it, your friends blogs under "my friends header" and your traffic link partners under "link partners". The same applies to blog directories, if the blog directory sorts blogs on incoming hits, then you should put these blog directories somewhere at the top of the blog directories, cause when surfers click on these links your blog is moved up at the blog directory causing your blog to get more surfers. |

As a surfer, I dont really like long lists of links bunched together, makes it much harder to read them. I like to break mine up like you mentioned, link directories, link partners, friends. I also list them alphabetical, though from a past post, most dont do that. It me it just makes the links easier to read and I think the blog looks better overall, more ogranized. Not just a bunch of links thrown on the page. Though many webmasters rank them off traffic, the surfer does'nt know that or care, looks like a mess to them.

I use both code and the WP links, it depends.
On my main blog I divide the links up. I have traffic links at the top of the sidebar, then further down I have links to my sites, links to the homepage of webmasters I consider more than just link partners, personal picks - sites I like, links to trade partners and then a section for directories/link lists. I use HTML code for some links as I like to customize the look, size, etc. Also, sometimes it's easier to paste in code than to add links thru WP one by one. |

Over time I've probably used a combination of all of the above. Since I now use a link exchange script capable of sorting by uniques in, I have a top ten in a prime area to give back to those who give to me and I loop all trades into that, including directories.
Prior to that, I preferred to make categories and put the links together in that manner. I've also hard coded and used the WP link management system but had given in to using the WP link management mostly out of laziness. |
