Back Links Are Changing...
I just noticed that Google is modifying backlinks for my sites (and others as well)... Adult Sex Sites just dropped from 816 to 200... I suppose this means page rank changes are coming |confused|

I noticed a fluctuation with PR too, but I don't see a noticible change in SERP for my own sites, so... eh.

I have been a webmaster since '99 and I have yet to figure out what the hell the toolbar really means. I know I know its all about back links and all that shit, but really whats the point other than that little green bar equaling the PR whore webmaster's erection? What really pisses me off is when I ask another site for a trade and they just say that they cant do it, and you know damn well they are PR whores and your "green bar dick" aint big enough. I've had pr4 sites not getting a single google hit, and I've had pr0 sites get decent google hits, from my experiences the pr is nothing but bs.
Of course maybe I'm just bitter because two of the webmasters I talk to quite a bit on ICQ just had their green dicks grow, and mine didnt. Maybe I secretly loathe guys with big green dicks because I want one too, but I just dont know it yet.

Mr Exotic - thats the reason I wont trade with anyone that comes to me telling me what PR they have - first off - that toolbar is so out of date with PR its not funny - by the time it updates the site itself has had the PR for 3 months usually.
The link/backlink and the PR indicator have both been manipulated by Google on purpose to show incorrect numbers as of 2 years ago so everything garnered from it is useless. The webmasters that come to me for trades have learned to never mention PR ![]() |

Back link update you see with the link: command or the PageRank export are not reflections of any internal changes. They are just updating what you're able to see.
That's why people often fail to see any correlation between ranking changes and increase in TBPR. The actual PageRank increase and ranking changes happened a long time ago. Google's crawl depth, frequency, and "supplemental status allocation" depends mainly on PageRank. So site:/inurl: searches tells you as much as your toolbar might on the day of a TBPR export - except looking at search results is way more accurate than looking at the toolbar, because Google updates its DCs on a daily basis. 'Course if your site only has like 10 pages, you need other indicators.

As of yesterday, you can see a much fuller (and hopefully a more up to date) picture of your backlink profile via Google Webmaster Tools:

- Nofollowed links are listed. - Links to any of your supplemental pages are not shown. - You're not meant to use the tool to dig up your competitor's backlinks (though right now there's a bug that supposedly lets you do it). Finally, (quoting Matt Cutts) Quote:

That's weird, I looked in webmaster tools and I know for a fact I have more external, and internal links then what it shows. It shows more for one of my sites that I havent even done much on.
Linkster, I dont understand why you would deny someone a trade just because they stated their PR. I am not saying it's wrong, but most people for whatever reason care about it. I personally don't but I usually tell people right off the bat cause they seem to care. I guess its a matter of what each person wants but it makes it hard to figure out what other webmasters want. I guess it truly all depends. |

I pay attention to "PR", but I like to think I sort of know what I am doing. Google is currently ranking me alright and I have been known to mention PR when seeking a link trade on some occasions. But, if you want to continue thinking PR is useless, by all means... please do.

What are the best ways to go about getting hard links? From tons of different forums people always suggest linking pages together with PR and that have the same content areas. Mortgage / Refinances / Real Estate, etc.... I am not looking to trade actual traffic with people, just to get good inbound links. What is the best way to do this without mentioning PR? Most others just are not interested in doing hard link trades unless you are sending tons of traffic that convert to sales.
I need search engine traffic... I have about 100 adult and 100 non-adult sites, most all need better search engine placement.

Instead, we try to think of ways to prevent traffic leaks and trade links to boost TBPR by linking up "relevant" pages (like Google cares whether a page is about anal sex as opposed to watersports - porn is porn) or build thousands of low value recips, like building castles in the sand.

Yeah, a lot of the sites are not well indexed in the search engines, but I wouldn't say they are not worth linking to. People tend to sign up and they are on a content management system so they stay nice and fresh. I doubt many people join one of my lactating sites and then joins up at another one of my lactating sites... but I have had the same person sign up for a voyeur site and then a few months down the line they sign up for a lactating site, then a few months later maybe another fetish topic. I have been making adult sites for about 10 years, expanded too fast and need to catch up on the marketing aspects for all the adult sites.

To rank #1 on Google means you have to be recognized as being the best. So the first step in SEO is to build a site better than any other site that exists in your niche - in terms of quality/quantity of content, originality, and design. Once you got that down, you move on to marketing. People who create half baked sites and try to rake in traffic via link trading and "optimization" is going about things the wrong way. I know because most of my sites are built that way. Creating the best site on the web for any sizable niche takes time. Even if you spent 10 years in the adult niche, that still averages 20+ days per domain assuming you spent all your days and nights working on your 100 adult domains. No one I know can whip up an authority site in under a month. Just ask any LL owner how much time they invested in their LLs. Maybe a dozen out of your 100 adult domains are quality sites. But I do not believe a high percentage of them are - unless you got hundreds of people working under you. Now let me ask you, is "http://www.massivemilkers.com/" the best lacting site on the web? If its not, then why should anyone link to it (without ref codes)? Does "http://thenewmarket.com/" look like a quality site to you, considering the spammy cross-links to off-topic sites (a real estate site linking out to sites related to penis enlargement, phone videos, San Diego massage)? You got several sites working the same niche: massivemilkers, 1lactatingbabe.com, lactating-girls.com, amazingmilkers.com, lactationnation.com, lactatingbabes2000.com, radgoods.com - none of them scream quality. Nothing wrong with that either, except in terms of Google, its better to own one authority site than own a bunch of low-visibility sites working the same niche.

I tend to agree with you regarding google and their scoring. Unfortunately I don't believe I can max out more sales, via search engines, to my existing well indexed sites since most of them do show up in the top 5 results for my keywords. But I see what you are saying... if only one of those were the 'best of the best', then I would get additional links, which would include traffic and better search engine placement.
I have a lot of similar sites working the same niche, i tried getting 10 sites in each niche. I should have stuck to developing 1 page for each niche, but at the time (2001) I was making tons of cash with 3, so I figured... time to expand!!! Lol. It has not really paid off. p.s.- thenewmarket.com has had so many different sites on it since I purchased it and I do not really focus on that one. I am using it these days to get all my other new domains in to the engines, etc... It seems to work getting initially indexed. Thanks for all the input on everything. I should probably just leave the other 95 adult sites alone and just let them hopefully get sales, maybe sell the domains down the line and really build up the 5 niche sites with existing sales...
