Hello everyone
As some of You know I haven't done any kind of work latelty, neither free site submits or reviews for my 2 link lists. I would like to appologize for this and eventually I will be getting back in gear and doing all of the above. However for now I will be very limited in my work. I have experienced a severe depression which resulted in me losing pretty much everything, including my self respect and it will take me a while to get thrue this. For those of You who have kept submitting to me I thank You. And to everyone else I just want to say thanks for being part of this great community on GG&J... You have all helped me a lot in my attempt to get a foothold in the adult business. Happy New Year to You all Xallow |

Xallow, you'd be amazed at how many people here understand your situation. As webmasters, we are often able to lock ourselves in our homes and cut off much of the outside world, which usually makes our depression even worse. As much as we don't feel like dealing with the world, real human interaction can help. For me, as cliche as it sounds, I had to start recognizing those things that are out of my control and learn not to stress over them so much. I was lucky, I suppose, that I suddenly got pissed off at feeling so low and miserable. I found that those outside forces were no longer my main problem. That horribly low feeling that I allowed them to create was. I was tired of feeling fragile and decided to stop feeling that way. Yes, I know it's not that simple, to consciously stop feeling a certain way, especially when that feeling has seemingly taken control. But if you are able to recognize that you can overpower it if you really want to, you'll begin feeling better.

Depression does seem to be more prevalent in this business than others, doesn't it?

I've often looked at it in a which came first, the chicken or the egg, sort of way. Is it the dark and lonely home office lifestyle that causes it, or are people who have depression drawn to work at home?

I'd put money on people suffering depression prefer working at home.
Switching the outside world off though is gonna make that alot worse. |

Wheither you think you can or you think you can't, Your right.

My thing has always been staying motivated. When money is good, tend to get lazy, when traffic and sales are down, get bummed. Not like having a boss making sure the work gets done.
I'm an only child, so the outside world is not as important to me. I know for some it is. Or I'm a hermit.. ![]() |

Thanks for the advice there Useless. I don't really know what the problem is, I know part of it is stress... I work a fulltime job besides doing the webmaster thing, though I have been out sick lately because I just couldn't take going there. The hours were insane, worked 11 hours a day minimum and sometimes 16 hours+ at that stupid job, but I will have to get back to it after new years to pay the bills.
For now I am pretty much staying away from people, but soon I am going skiing for a week with some friends, looking forward to that. Xallow |

I have to agree, Im sure the isolation of working in a small office away from outside "contact" hs alot to do with it. I myself visit the boards a few times a day to get my "watercooler" fodder. Helps me feel Im interracting with others and then its back to work. Just know that youre not alone in your feelings. Heres to a better year in 08.

I walk to the pub most days to escape my desk and have a few laughs. It gives me a bit of exercise and fresh air, and takes my mind off of my problems for a couple of hours.
It gives me a chance to talk to real people, flirt with the ladies a bit and behave like a normal person, all for the cost of a couple of beers. Keeps me sane, somewhat ![]()

Depression is a serious illness and I hope you're getting professional help. It can be overcome, thankfully, either with medication, psychotherapy or both. What UW said sounds great and may work for a few, but most of us need a more structured way of changing thought patterns. I highly recommend CBT - not cock and ball torture! but Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. They have some amazing tools for depression and it's a short-term therapy, not years of analysis. If you don't want to wait even for that, or don't have the energy to invest in CBT, you may want to go for those nice little pills to get the initial boost. Prozac and co. can literally be a lifesaver. The new versions have very few side effects and once you find the right one for you, there are none. Why suffer for too long? 2-3 weeks on SSRI and life will look good again. CBT does the same thing, only it can take 2-3 months to reach the same point.
