Sitemap Plugin
I have a few niche related blogs set up in folders (separate wp installs but using the same database)
like so http://www.sologirlshomeyada.com/ http://www.sologirlshomeyada.com/asians/ http://www.sologirlshomeyada.com/boobs/ etc.... so it's basically one big site I'm building up. Question is can I just use the sitemap plugin on the root and somehow configure it so it's working with the blogs in the sub folders as well? Or would I have to have a sitemap for each individual sub directory?

Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and old people are useless

You looking at Wordpress MU?
http://mu.wordpress.org/ May save you sometime as far as plugins etc. etc. although they all don't work. I'm not sure how your idea is going to work... they are not going to use the same tables are they? If so I think you are gonna have a bear of a time with permalinks. |

As far as it working I have no problems with permalinks links or anything else. You can have separate blog installs all using the same wordpress database.

right... you can use one database by have different tables setup (i.e. different table prefixes in the wp-config file)
I was considering using MU just for the fact you would only have to install plugins in one directory and they'd be installed in all the "sub" wordpress installs as well. |

I really doubt if you can use a sitemap plugin on one blog to spider another blog, even if they are on the same domain.
You can always download a sitemap generator and do it yourself.

Wheither you think you can or you think you can't, Your right.

I use this site map plugin:
http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects...aps-generator/ It doesn't specifically say you can use it like your asking, but it does have a number of settings, like custom location, so maybe? |

I believe that plugin works by pulling permalinks from the wp posts table.... it doesn't spider per se (I use that one too).
so if each blog is using a different posts table in the db it will generate the sitemap.xml based on it's root directory I would make sure you add a line to the robots.txt in your Document Root pointing to all the sitemap files Sitemap: http://www.<yourdomain>.com/<the sub directory>/sitemap.xml.gz Google, yahoo, and MSN search the robots.txt for sitemaps or so I understand Later, Ric |

Definitely think it would be best to only have one site map, think thats what your talking about. Think more than one site map might look spammy.

I think multiple sitemaps are pretty standard in larger mainstream sites. That of course doesn't mean they might be viewed differently in the sites we are talking about as ronnie suggests.
This Article talks about multiple maps and having them in the same or different directories. Later, Ric |
