Changing Index on old free sites
I am looking at a couple of hundred old free sites and noticed that many link lists that are linked to are no longer online. Can I just replace the defunct recips with new ones or will modified sites by banned?

That's fine as long as the new recips don't break any rules like being blind, etc. If I find a dead link list, like Cucumber Links, I don't replace it, that would be too many sites to submit to the replacement link list. I use SSI so I go in and delete the recip and it's gone from 100's and 100's of sites in a matter of seconds.

Some free sites get nice SE traffic and it is known that Google punishes sites that have to many dead links. Why give that up?

SSI sounds interesting and handy. I should look into it.

When I first started making sites I made a new recip table from scratch for every site.

You can now put whatever you want in this space :)

Licker, I've seen you write about SSI several times...it's sounds very very logical yet, I still haven't done it...can you answer this question:
How do you style your table with the SSI include? I currently use a <div id="reciptable"> and style it that way. Is this still done the same way if I were to insert the recip SSI within that div? |

I don't style the tables. I just put the include on the page where I want the table to be and since the tables are basic HTML saved as a .txt file they just show up as is. Here's an example:
<td align="center" colspan="2"> <!--#include virtual="/recips/toys1.txt" --> </td> Just remember there is a space after .txt before the two dashes. That really fucked me up for a while |

In this way, an SSI is like a simple copy/paste.

Yep, and on the first mirror all I have to do is change the "1" in toys1.txt to a 2 and I have a new recip table there
