While I would always recommend updating your blogs regularly to grow traffic, I think other forces may also be at work.
I've noticed a sizable increase in Google traffic over the last 3-4 weeks. One blog's google traffic is up over 150% in that time period. |

Updating can help a lot :-) Lately, I have checked older posts for broken links and removing them has brought back some traffic as well. A lot of factors are responsible for SE lubrication.
