turn AND serve, or just turn?

If you were cooking (say) a succulent portion of chicken in the pan (or on the barbie) would you then serve the cooked meat using the same utensil you'd used to turn the raw (going on partially cooked) meat during the cooking process?

I wouldn't.

But some TV chefs would (apparently).

No wonder so many people have the shits.

My wife's cousin is really anal about this kind of stuff - especially about using the same utensil for both beef & poultry, but I really don't see the big deal - LOL

I usually throw the chicken or steak on the grill by hand, then wash my hands & use a pair of tongs to flip them 1/2 way thru - I'm still alive

Goota believe that the reason so many people these days are having to go to doctors with these little flus and infections is because we've gotten so damned picky about cleanliness - damn clorox wipes for the cutting board, disinfectant after every shower - our friggin bodies cant build up a good resistence to germs anymore - its all part of a plot by the medical insurance conglomerate

What the others said... except Cleo

You are much more at risk of getting all kinds of infections if you don't cook your meat properly...
I use the same utensil for everything... less stuff that need washing afterwards

I've managed in food service for over 10 yrs. & have taking too many classes about public safety to do that.

If it for yourself, your own house, go for it if you are of good health & use to it.

But if you have folks that are of weaker health.....such as children & ederly......I would strongly not recommend it.

A 2yr toddler died in the Jack-in-Box outbreak of E-coli (1993ish) by just eating the bun that the meat had touched & the meat was not cooked fully. Which, I believe, spread to his day care by a diaper & playground cross-contamination.

Raw veggies are also not fully safe either, they have been known to have E-coli & that is how a hepatitis got spread through onions, I believe at a popular Mexican establishment within the last few years. They need to be cleaned before consuming.

The health department comes up with it's standards because of proven outbreaks through the public caused by cross-contamination of raw & cooked items. The standards are not there just to make life difficult, it is make you safe.

Our natural resistance has dropped quite a lot over the last decades... damn, our ancestors ate of the floor and look, we're still here. Call me dirty but the people that are the most hygienic get sick more often... and that's a proven fact (I think )

An interesting observation actually - One of the biggest problems today are doctors liberally dishing out antibiotics, which over the long term depress your own body's natural resistance and immune system. In fact this is one of the reasons for the increase in Asthma over the last 30 odd years.

As for the meat - I eat mine very rare anyway, it hasn't killed me - YET - lol...

Indian restaurants (curry houses) generally have a seated area where customers waiting for tables or take-away meals sit.

There's usually a large dish of Bombay Mix for customers to nibble on while they are waiting, which is a spicy mix of nuts, lentils and fried flour noodles.

A chemical analysis of the Bombay Mix from a selected number of restaurants was made, which revealed that on average, 16 different types of urine were found present in every bowl.

|pissright Squirrels revenge? Or people just not washing their hands?

I don't know which is worse to me, curry or urine? Either way I don't eat Indian food.

lol....We may be here, but our ancestors also had an extremely short life span (47 area), high rate of childhood deaths and a lot shorter in average height. Only good healthy standards could have brought that up to where we are today.

They also used mercury & lead to cure venereal diseases (just saw that on the history channel, lol). With what we know today about that.......scary.

Yes, I do believe our resistance has dropped, not to wards food borne illness, but to everyday flus and colds. Because doctors do over prescribe antibiotics at the slightest thing. Or reltin (sp) to children when they are just being children.

I will suffer a sinus infection for a couple of weeks before going to the doctor. I do not want my body to build up an immunity to the meds I may need farther down the line.

That is why you do not want to over use the sanitizer for hands instead of washing them. It kills all the germs, but it also kills the ones that the body needs to use to defend itself.

Some germs are good and are needed, food borne illnesses caused by bacteria is not.

There is something called common sense and collective society seems to be losing it.

It's funny the subject of immune systems came up. A recent study (yeah, I know...a study shows what you want it to) showed that children on farms, and children who were exposed to dirtier environments got sick less than children who were raised in "sterile like" homes.

I totally believe this! Your body has to BUILD a good immune system. It can't do that if mom is cleaning baby off every time it gets close to dirt.

My sisters second child was like that. She didn't want her "dirty", she didn't take her out in the cold or rain, etc. She developed asthma, and gets sick VERY easily now.

My daughter is total tomboy. (Our girls are 10 now...2 months apart). Mine has always loved to play in the dirt, mud, rain...yes she has eaten dirt My daughter has been sick enough to go to the doctor only a couple of times when she caught strept throat from her half-brother. She never even had 1 ear infection....great immune system.

I just found this recent news article on this subject, it goes someway to explain how the overuse of Anitbiotics can effect the immune system.

I think Doctor's relationships with these big drug companies are a little sus if you ask me - here, Pharmaceutical companies give GP's sponsored BMW's and Merc's to drive around in for free - makes me wonder where their loyalties may lie, or am I just being cynical....? Naaaaa!

Urb - I never touch nibbles in public places, for that very reason!!
