What good is google PageRank?

I've got a site I was going to delete (no traffic anymore). But I saw today it has a Page Rank of 4, it gets maybe 1 person a week from google.

So what good is this? Can I add a few kilobytes of spammy keywords and actually get google traffic?

I quit chasing the google tail a while ago. Just build good sites and get qualified traffic is my theory.

I think a good listing on google is still possible. What if... you take an existing niche and make it even more specific? Something like... CIRCUS MIDGETS!!

Everyone has different opinions..... but mine is....

Page Rank is useful....

It is NOT in and of itself GOOD!, but its useful.....

That page you have that is PR4, must have some "value" to Google, and it also must have links leading to it. Therefore it is of some value.

I would change the page and its keywords so that it could either..

- get ranked for its own KWs
or
- pass relevance on to the sites it links too
or
- improve its own relevance

I would NOT "add a few kilobytes of spammy keywords " -

spammy keywords can get you downgraded or banned. Choose some approriate KWs, and use them wisely.

You may find you have a little gold mine

I am starting to see alot of search engine URLs in my sponsor referral stats so I can't say that it is useless. I have several galleries that have a PR4 and get hits on a daily basis even though are no longer listed anywhere other than buried in the archives.

even though I chase the Golden Google Goose daily and work to build my PR I think its all a big wind up by the guys at Google.

I bet they go round and just up and down people just to keep everyone talkng bout it. You think how many man hours we all must spend just doing things of hope of boosting PR.

Either way what the hell it helps make sense of this otherwise dull and repetitive grind of being a webmaster - without PR there would be no banter.

By the way anyone know how I can get off a 4 ???? Would love to make 5 b4 xmas

Google’s PR is fickle, and many wonder how to get more of it. Before I get started let me make on thing clear.. a PR4 can beat a PR7 site in the SERP.

Each level of PR as its own hoops to clear to be able to get to the next level, so it does get harder and harder to get higher PR each time you get to a new PR.

PR is not give to a 'site' it is given to a page, so each page is give its own PR, many people mistake this because everyone links to the domain and their index page load and gets most of the PR. to see what I mean load a domain then load the domain with the index page in the url and you will see how the PR is different.

As Google has made PR a wanted commodity and market, it is passable that they have lessen the value of PR do to the market selling link position on PR7 sites.

Some say that each link is worth .15 PR if it is a 'on market title' to the page it is linking to and from.

Its getting late and it getting hard to type so Ill come back tomorrow and finish up.

My page with PR4 had two links, one to the next page, the other to YNOT. The only site linking back to me was YNOT (wutz new, and like 3 or 4 categories).

That only adds up to like .75 PR if you only give each link .15 PR value.

Its only a theory, and I think internal links can count also... Its only what I have been hearing on the SEO boards, as Google does not tell us, its peoples ideas, and theories.

You also have to take in many other factors, as in your site theme and what Google gives for that, there are so many things...

If you take the time to read what is at these links and Do Not insert your own assumptions based on what you read on boards (in other words - Just the Facts for your decisions) you ought to be able to make web pages that consistently do well and increase your overall income (or enjoyment if you're just in it for a hobby).
