My New Home

Holy Christ...I lived here from when I was 10 years old until I moved out at 18. Never did I notice the hiding places in the attic where they used to hide slaves passing through on the underground railroad. I pryed up a floor board and found a few slave momentos...pretty cool.

On another note, living here is a little weird. My office was my bedroom for all those years. Every once in a while, I have a flashback of being a child

That is so cool!

I love the connection to history, it lets you actually have mental pictures of it then just having some dusty distant thoughts on it.

That would be weird to have childhood flash backs now that you are living there.

Sounds like a pretty cool old house. The only secret this old house has is rotting sill plates.

I thought you were going to say that when you pryed up the floor board, you found a few slaves.

<crickets>

Too soon?

DUDE!!!
You need to preserve that stuff! Find out where your local Historical Society is and have them come in and inspect and preserve it. That is truly history. Photograph everything. You just moved into a piece of history and it's your responsibility to do your best to preserve it and record it. You never know who's life you might touch.

That is a nobel thought but also make sure you know a little about the Historical Society before you contact them. If they declare your house an historical landmark you may loose control of your house. I know a couple of people that did that and suddenly they had to get on a waiting list to go to meetings before they could plant flowers and stuff. It was crazy.

There are a lot of houses around here that have secret hideaways. Our library has tunnels that go to the river. This area is really old and finding historical items doesn't even make the local paper.

That is so cool, try and film things to keep the memories as the years pass.

It is slowly turning into our house. It is hard for me to let my lovely wife change what my mother did. But, I am getting better at it
