Katrina aftermath - what the fuck???
Ok, I don't normally respond to political issues, but this is simply a dead fucking wrong response.
See if you can spot 1 white person left in New Orleans??? Look folks, yeah, they were told to leave. But you know what, they don't have a car and simply can't leave! They couldn't afford one!! You can't simply leave them there to die, (which they will). They could supply Berlin with airlifts in WWII with supplies but they can't supply our own damn city? I honestly don't know what the hell this administation is thinking. Trust Me - there will be thousands and thousands of deaths. Looting, flooding etc... Good thing we sent millions of dollars to New Orleans for an evacuation plan! Seems that money was well spent! Get the people out of there, and call it a right off. Anything built below sea level from now on should be declined building permits period. Bush, I have about as much faith in you as a rock. Enough ranting, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

SirMoby - yes I have, I was speaking of the US only, my apologies.
I don't think that Holland (Netherlands) have needed to survive a hurricane. and btw- they have their plans together. The massive (millions of dollars) of closeable dikes, and what not. Apparently, we just don't think that far in advance! ![]()

Great point dareutwo got into the same discussion with some people last night. If your poor and your told to leave how do you??? They didn't send any one in to remove them which is such bullshit. Does it have any thing to do with the fact it is a poor area of blacks? Of couse it does. One lady said it right on CNN yesterday. Where was National Guard when we needed them? Oh thats right they are in Iraq!! All this aftermath would move so much smoother if we just brought our boys home. Help is needed to protect and save our own people.

The thing is with every hurricane there are people who refuse to evac out of "it won't happen to me" attitude even when they own a car and have a tv set to hear about it days in advance.

It's Republican policy to let black people fend for themselves.
Except when it's Republican policy to treat them like criminals at police stops. (I'm referring to the recent Government Statistics officlal who quit when he was told to suppress a report that showed that whites and blacks were stopped by police at equivalent and essentially fair levels, but that after the stop, blacks and latino's were 80% more likely to be treated agressively, handcuffed, searched, and detained.) Fortunately, emergencies like this will reveal Emporer Smirk's mismanagement. Watch his Republican buddies run like rats from a sinking ship as this next year unfolds. |

It's just getting worse by the day.
![]() I don't know if it is so much of a race thing as it is a case of the poor being the ones that are getting hurt the worst. I don't know, it's just a big fucking horrible mess. ![]() |

I'm more worried about the aftermath on a national level. Can our economy handle this?
If I was there, I wouldn't wait on my roof for more than 12 hours. I'd float my pungent ass to land and then keep on going. Those poor fuckers have nothing left, nothing to return to. It's like they were just born into the world at the age of 30, with no possessions, no work, no direction, nothing.

I've donated money to the Red Cross for the hurricane victims. I also sponsor a local Red Cross class to train volunteers that want to go to the affected areas.

yahoo seems to have a problem with verbiage.. let me see if i can find the links..
"black people loot" "White people find" The thing is.. how many of us would be able to evacuate in a 12 hour time span? If we didn't have transportation? Or the money to get on a plane? or the money to get on a bus/train etc? Let's face it, a large percentage of this country lives literally from pay check to pay check. or could access ready cash on a sunday other than the 300.00 limit from an ATM? The sad part is that so many people in this country live like this because they don't have the comprehension that there is a way to get out. I doubt seriously this will reflect on George. I think he's going to thump his bible and say "the lord's will" or some other bull shit.. when actually Mother Nature is PISSED that he declared there is No Global warming.. but she didn't want to hit Cindy in Crawford. ![]() |

I think GW got his new Amex Gold card when taking office. I don't know about rebuilding the whole damn area, just get the people out. Diesel Engines do not short out... Where are the tractors from that area? 10' of water isn't a problem on hard roads. Get the farmers in there. At least they have some common sense. In the meantime, airdrop whatever is needed. This isn't rocket science. And Yes btw - I DO think it's a race thing.

They are all red states down there... You think Bush would have really wanted to take care of them in something like this. This will be bad for the republican party...
I don’t understand why the people are shooting at the choppers that come in to supply them, take them out, and try to repair the levees. Just because they stole them selves some new guns doesn’t mean they have to use them.

This is not a political issue. It is not a racial issue. The people of the south will pull together and we will rise again.
You saw the national TV coverage and saw color. As a life long Mississippian, I see the TV coverage and I see fellow Southerns in trouble. |

Since this is the most recent katrina thread I will post this here.
Fats Domino was missing Thursday, days after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, said his longtime agent, Al Embry. Embry told The Associated Press that he hadn't been able to contact Domino since talking to him Sunday evening by phone. The 77-year-old R&B legend, whose real name is Antoine Domino, told Embry that he planned to stay at his New Orleans house with his wife, Rosemary, and their daughter. "I hope somebody turns him up, but as of right now, we haven't got anybody that knows where he's at," said Embry, who has worked with Domino for 28 years. "I would think he might be safe because somebody said he was on top of the balcony." Checquoline Davis, Domino's niece, posted a message on Craigslist.com Thursday pleading for information. Davis wrote that Domino, his wife, their children and grandchildren "didn't get out" of the second floor. Domino, who has rarely appeared in public in recent years, has a home in the 9th ward, a low-lying area of the flooded city. Getting information on possible missing persons has been nearly impossible as phone lines for hospitals and police haven't been working. Domino has sold more than 110 million records in his long career, including the legendary singles "Blueberry Hill" and "Ain't That a Shame." |

I think it would be much better if they used race, or class of income for a reason they are not getting help as they need it…
To call it a southern thing is weird, as is calling it a political issue... Seeing as how the same hurricane went through the state of the president's brother and killed people, also it hit a state that boarders the presidents home. His political base is in the south. It is the area hit by the hurricane.

Yes it does seem to be a racial issue to me also. It's just sad that it has come to this in light of such a tradegy. Sure help is on it's way, people will get moved out of there into safer places. I agree with Chop Smith that they will rebound. I just think if the poor had been moved out like they should have before the storm it wouldn't be so bad. What the hell was the local goverment thinking in not bringing the buses in before hand instead of scrambling now?? It was on the news as soon as the storm left Florida it was going to be a big problem.
I think dochollys post about how black take and white find is what angers me so much. It's the news that help spread this kind of stuff that angers so many and starts trouble. Sure the black poor citizens were over looked which is unforgiveable. But why add to it by reporting shit like they did on yahoo?? I don't care if a person is black, white, purple etc.. they could have stop a lot of whats going on if they had just got them out.....before ![]() I just wish there was something I could do to help. |

The south will rise again, just like Atlanta.
Southerners are incredibly proud and independant Hurricanes Cindy and Dennis were expected to be severe, and did not live up to their hype. When the warnings came for Katrina, they were not taken seriously enough. Forget about racism, who is at fault and everything else that armchair analysts seem to be preoccupied with. Get yourself over to the redcross site and see what you can do to be part of the solution. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected in that region alone, not to mention the entire continent's economy. Everyone joined together when 9-11 happened, and even for the tsunami crisis. America needs to pull itself together again for one of it's own. The longer we argue and delay help, the more people who die. |

I think it's absolutely a political issue. And it will become hugely more so as the repercussions of this event unfold.
People have known NO was a disaster waiting to happen for a long, long time. But, there will be time enough for the politics of this in the future. Investigations will tell us a great deal. It's going to be a hellish night for those folks. Hopefully tomorrow the relief trucks will arrive. |
