Good Back to Work Monday (Where were you guys 5 years ago today)

I thought I would get up early before the board changes colors ooops, did I say that outloud?

Anyway, some good games on yesterday and then on to remembering 9/11 on cbs. The documentary, not the piece of shit on abc.

Five years ago, I was Vice President of Marketing for CECash watching the planes hitting the towers and pentagon. I remember telling MrMaryLou on icq to turn on the news. I also remember someone on the CECash board wondering why conversions were down.

I was still working fulltime not online and read Greenguy's old board where Cleo posted Turn on CNN, a plane hit one of the Towers in New Tork. THe rest was downhill from there as they say.

Jim, I watched that too I think. The one with the French documentary guys? It was very good.

I was working on the top floor of a government building, part of a contract job I did for 3 yrs. We were watching it on tv, and we had these huge windows which just freaked us all out. Hubby debated getting the kids out of school and taking them home, we thought 'this is it'. It was very scary, that's for sure.

I have goosebumps now.

Morning all,

I was at the office, same job, different building, when we first heard the news on the radio that a plane hat hit the WTC. They first made it sound like it was a small sports plane or something like that. Since we were taking a company trip to NY 2 weeks later one of my co-workers said: "Damn, now we can't go to the top of that building". He didn't know how right he was.

Anyway, have a nice day all.

I was in Key West, at home, watching CNN's morning news or at least having it on in the background as usual as I started the day. I'd been up a few hours by the time the first plane hit.

I think I had one of GWB's "reading to children" moments when I saw that first hit. I remember watching the news of the first hit, then watching the second plane hit, but my ex told me that when she woke up and came into the room, I was sitting there staring at the screen without saying anything, not even when she asked me what I was watching.

She thought I was just being rude, and that it was too early in the morning to be so wrapped up in some kind of action movie. She said it took her a few minutes to realize it was CNN that I had on, and that was when she noticed I was still not responding to anything she was saying to me. Only thing I remember about that part of things was her shaking my shoulder pretty hard. I don't remember anything but watching the things happening on the screen and listening to the reports.

I think I didn't believe my own eyes and ears, and was working so hard on processing what had happened that I didn't have room for more input right then. (Either that or she's right and I never paid enough attention to her.)

Yeah, that's the one. CBS took the high road while ABC went lower than low. I heard recently that some family morals people tried to get CBS to not show the documentary because the firemen said "fuck". They didn't care that you could hear bodies hitting the roof of the lobby but what ever you do, don't say "fuck" on TV.

Morning all.
It is as bright outside as the board is this morning.

No real plans for today. Just a day of work and errands most likely.

Good Morning Everyone!

I was product manager for a .com company sitting in my office and a good friend sent me an msn to check out the news. Right away we started registering domain names and 2 days later we had a site up and were collecting money selling shirts that we made. All the funds went to support the Red Cross efforts.

Was a very sad time, even though I wasnt directly involved in this terror I think in someway or another we all are.

If I still had the board I used back then I would put it back up and continue to let people post and send in stories and artword like I was doing 5 years ago... maybe I start it over??

Have a good day everyone!

At the time I was living in a loft about 2 blocks away from the Sears Tower, in downtown Chicago.

I was updating sites and reviewing galleries when my wife told me to turn on the TV, a plane just crashed. As I was watching the one on fire, the other plane hit. Then the report of the one going down in a field and the one that hit the Pentagon.
I thought for sure the Sears tower would get hit as well.

The wife and I grabbed the dog and hopped in the car and got out of the city for the day, just in case.

We drove to my parents house in the suburbs and stayed until late in the evening.

Incidently my cousin who lives in NY was visiting and staying at my parents house. He slept till about 1pm that day. He awoke to find what had happened and that he could not get home.

That was a sad and surreal day.

I was still living in small town Oregon at the time. My day was already surreal before I'd even heard about the twin towers. My Mom had passed away the day before, after a long battle with cancer. I was already numb. I just stared at the coverage for several days.

I was at my desk when a client icq'd to tell me to turn on CNN. My (then) business partner then relayed a message from his brother in Cyprus, that they were hearing that the Palestinians were attacking the US.
That day literally stunned me. I was in a trance all day unable to handle anything else. Numb.
My mother was to fly home from Hawaii that day via Dallas, which I confused with the radio reports that kept mentioning 'Dulles'. That was a little worriesome too.
We went to the bank to wire money to close on a site we purchased, and the world seemed empty. Everyone was home safe with their families, glued to the tv and counting their blessings.

Man I so remember when Jim ICQ'd me that morning what a sad day it was. All I can remember is the rest of the day I was glued to the TV and in total shock.

Morning

1st, the pleasantness I spent the entire day watching football (fucking Bills got my fucking hopes up) with 4 browsers open looking at Fantasy Football stats (I think I went 3-0 ) I did cap off the day by watching The Wire & Brotherhood, both of which were really good.

As far as where I was 5 years ago: I was sleeping & The Bitch woke me up because Jim called to let me know what was going on. I got out of bed, came down to the office & I think I spent the rest of the day talking to Jim & watching TV.

I was sleeping. Jenny woke me up and said that planes had hit the towers. In my groggy state the first thought that came to mind was that plane that hit the Empire State building in a heavy fog back in the 40's. Then PLANES (plural) sank in and I thought "Oh fuck". I think we stayed glued to the tube for the next few days.

Morning.. Was glad to see i'm still alive in the Superbowl pool.

I was in ATL at the IKON office working on their employee database. Because it was the IT office they had a control center in the middle of the office that had like 23 TV screens that could be viewed from every cubicle. 1 of the tv's was on CNN 24/7. I heard my across the cubicle wall mate gasp loudly and looked up to see the 1st tower smoking.. as i watched my phone rang.. my husband calling.. just as i answered the 2nd plane hit. He said i'm going for spud. He picked up my son. I chose to stay at work. Kind of indicitive of our relationship. But 3 weeks later the 2 members of the US Navy knocked on our door and informed him that in 48 hours he would again be active duty.

I was in another house in the same chair and watching a different TV. I remember watching The Today Show back then when they said, "we have to go to commercial but we have important news when we come back". I jumped up, ran into the living room to tell my wife, something important happened. Then we watched it together.

All that day we heard fire trucks going down the thruway. And we live about 3 and 1/2 hours from the city.

Funny how you remember things like this. I remember where I was when the first space shuttle blew up but not the second. I remember where I was when the Federal Building was blown up on Oklahoma. And, even though I was only 3 years old, I remember Kennedy getting shot. All I remember from that was my mother crying.

Morning everyone...

I was doing much the same as I'm doing now, though it was 3k miles away in another state. Like many others, I got a phone call telling me to turn on CNN. Spent the rest of the day stunned, shocked and glued to the news

I don't think that's a day that anyone who saw it will ever forget

Sitting here thinking about it now...those feelings of shock and sadness still bubble to the surface.

I remember waking up around 9:30 that morning after a late night coding. My icq was lit up my a christmas tree with everyone asking "Are you watching TV?" I tried to hit cnn.com and it was down, tried msnbc.com and it was down -- then turned on the TV and basically sat there dumbfounded watching. I had a conference call scheduled later that week with someone that worked on the 103rd floor that I had just met the week prior. When the plane hit the Pentagon, my immediate thoughts were about a good friend of mine that worked there, and moreover, his children that were in the daycare center. We tried to get through to his wife most of the day to find out that they were on the other side of the building -- and while it took a lot of time for them to get out, they were fine.

I had a Fedex delivery due that day which was returned to the delivery station, rescanned, and redelivered. The guy told me I was one of the last deliveries that day.

I ended up driving to the office anyhow -- it was eery not seeing any planes in the air. You don't realize how much little things like that make a difference. Airports had planes on the ground with no room for more planes, downtown Miami was a ghost town, policemen guarding federal buildings everywhere.

What a sad day.

It took a few days to get in contact with a few friends that worked a few blocks from the World Trade Center and they told us that they ended up walking home and it took 8 hours or so.

A client of mine in Washington DC lost two dear friends from National Geographic on the plane that hit the Pentagon. Another good friend of mine that worked for Akamai lost a good friend on the flight from Boston.

That six degrees of separation theory sure does hit home when things like this happen.

Special thoughts of rememberance to all those that lost their lives needlessly.

I was sleeping that morning, noticed my phone was ringing way to much so got up and took one of the calls. It's one I'll never forget! I also didn't leave the tv for about three days, and was totally freaked out.

Good morning all. Lots of work to do today. 5 years ago I was transfered to a new TOC-NCC(tatical operations command network control center). I just got there July 1st (birthday) and had not really gotten to know everyone. Just a little PFC. 3 of the guys were at training in other parts of the country, my direct boss was home sleeping. I was the only one in the office and was freaking out that no one of command was there to give any direction. The phones were ringing like crazy and I was being told to get on secure lines. I had no idea where the secure line was lol. Then I kept getting knocks on the door (I was in the only room with a TV). I was asking people who they were through the speaker and they were telling me Major this, General that. I had no idea who these people were but was told "if they don't have a card to enter the room, they do not get in! No matter who they are they do not get in!" so here I am telling high ranking guys I can't let them in the room lol. Being I'm in NJ it was rather crazy. I finnaly got my boss on the line and just yelled at him to get his ass in the building. He was upset not knowing what was going on that I just yelled an hung up the phone. I get another knock at the door and it's my head boss telling me he forgot his card and I'm to open the door or I'll have a nice trip someplace cold for a long time. I open and in walks more brass then I ever expected to see. They were planning stuff for up at Liberty Park and needed live video feeds to the location and down the DC. I was the only one with that experience, hence my start to the webcam world . so I was ordered up to Liberty to set it up. Once there I did not leave for 3 days. It was constant back and forth across the river to the trade center site. That was just fucked up looking at all that mess. Anyway it was sad seeing all the medical people and not one person came over the river. After about 48 hours, things slowed down I was allowed to run home for 2 hours to get a change of clothes. Honestly it was a very exciting time in my life but something I would not want to see or do again..

Good morning all

5 years ago today I was up and ready for work when the wife and I turned on the news. They broke away showing the first one hit. We sat stunned watching. I remember they said they were going to replay the plane hitting and then the second one hit it was from a cameraman on the ground pointing upward. The anchors thought it was a replay and I'm yelling at the screen its a second plane. I looked at my wife and said we are under attack as we watched for awhile and the anchors figured out it was a second plane.

I remember driving to work with my wife. We both, at that time worked in the LA/LB port for an american shipping company. The place where 75% of all products come in and out of the US. We know that in time of war that we could get attacked for it would devastate our economy. It was a very strange feeling being at work. After about an hour the company said for safety reasons they were shutting everything down and go home.

Spent the rest of the day in front of the TV a bit numb.

Indeed.

I woke up and turned on the Today show to see the damage, I believe right before the second plane hit.

I went to work and because of our proximity to a nuclear plant and a 'missing' plane in our area, everyone was on edge. We had one employee run out the door in fear for her child's safety.

That night I was glued to the coverage trying to make some sense of the whole matter. I was unsuccessful in that venture.
