Hardcore on the index

Can I have nude (softcore/hardcore) pictures on the index page?

If we're supposed to put a warning message I'd expect we can't use any nude images though I still see lots of free sites listed on big LLs using them.

Excuse the question, I was just wondering.. I still haven't build by first freesite.

Softcore I don't think is a problem with most. Personally I don't list a site with hardcore on the warning or entrance page but some will. If it were me I'd stay away from hardcore that way you have a better chance and getting listed on most LL's.

I too don't allow hardcore on the warning page, I will allow a chick that is showing tits, but no pink. Censored hardcore is ok, add those stars.

I also don't allow hardcore recips to other sites, or counter graphics.

And I agree, it is up to the link list, some do, some don't. Some don't like me, and people change after they list and I have to keep looking through the current listings for peeps that change their sites.

Ok, thanks for the replies so far.

I'd like to get some more opinions on this... did I posted on the wrong forum (I just read the sticky by DangerDave and wondered if I should have posted this on the general business knowledge forum) or should I assume mostly everyone who read this and didn't reply agree with your opinions?

Well, it could be I'm being too anxious... I know, I know, it's weekend. |rasta|

Personally I don't care what you put on the warning page seeing as they are coming from my links list and have already seen hardcore.

I'm with Red and Matrix on this one and am very strict about it.

Cleo's argument is a real good one and made me stop and think last time I read it - and again this time - but I also read a lot of stuff about this subject recently and I notice that particular attention is paid by the source sites (one was a US educational establishment and one a UK government site) to pages which contain both a warning AND hardcore content; the figures I saw quoted 72% of "warning pages" had adult content on them, (which is obviously drawing more attention to the phenomenon).

I just want to steer clear of the whole shebang and make sure I link to pages which are not attracting unwanted attention for any reason so I don't allow it at all.

(Just out of interest - I also noticed that the word "warning" is not the only thing which qualifies a page as a warning page in this respect).

I also think it's silly to risk losing listings or liberty so I always build with "censored" entry pages on my own free sites

Hmm.. some different points of view, nice. I had Cleo's one before posting this thread, but my guess is I'll not be receiving just LLs' traffic. Well, at least I hope to get some SE traffic going too. I think I'll just try to avoid the hardcore stuff and promote some different products on the warning page.

Do that would work? Is there a problem with the LLs owners about promoting things like toys (Flesh Light), email programs, remedies (viagra, penis enlargement, etc), dating programs, security softwares (HistoryKill and such), PPC search engines, DVDs, t-shirts, mp3s, etc?

Of course, keeping the 3 outgoing links rule.

Sounds like a waste of prime ad space to me.

As long as it's legal I usually don't care what you promote.

It is a little wasteful, there's no reason why you can't advertise a porn site with a censored or softcore banner - I get a lot of sign ups from my index pages ads - all using softcore pics / text.

I respectfully disagree. In my opinion if I haven't sold the surfer before that galley pages I'm doing something wrong. I don't use banners or pics but I do use "hardcore" language to sell.

My typical construction:

1st line is the title

2nd line informs the surfer that this is and adult site and to leave if they are under age or offended by adult materials.

Then it's hard sell time.

I like to use a combo of text and a banner in my ads.

I put a small ad under 400 pixels high across the top of my warning page. I get many sales off of this ad.

My best sales come from the ad on my main page. Sales off of my galleries come in a close second to the ad on my warning page. This means that my worst sales are from my gallery pages on a free site.

I agree... why have a "warning" page if it has hardcore on it?... IMHO...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, it helped me a lot. I'll be using softcore or censored hardcore on my warning pages. Just gave up the idea of promoting mainstream products.

When you get a little time under your belt you will realize that there are good LL's and TGP's that let you make your pages and sites the way you want.

Making a site so vanilla that it appeals to the broadest possible LL's is just plain a mistake that you will regret sooner than later.

Personally for me when I build a site I don't usually use a lot of hardcore on the index page, but then that is just because it is true that if there is hardcore there on the front why bother with the warning page. But that is just me and my thoughts on what is going to be out there picked up by the search engines

But as for submits to my LL, I will accept sites with hardcore on the front page....my thought being it is someone else's site and they should be able to build alot of it the way they want...and if someone is on my site surfing they have theoretically already gone through my warning page and know what they are in for....
