A Note for X Power Links Users

Many LL owners here use XPL, so this is a note for all of you who, like me, have been waiting forever for the "update" to version 2.0.

Let me say there that I'm not dogging the script, and in fact I've been a big supporter of it up until now. Until recently I've gotten really fast support on technical issues. It's still a decent script, but it lacks many of the features that help a LL become successful nowadays and the guys who have been promising the update to v 2.0 (including all the features the current users want) for over a year have come out and said "don't hold your breath."

I've written I don't know how many emails asking for info on the update, and historically gotten no real response. Joe Black finally got the straight story, which follows:

Quote:
From Pentarh:

I am in vacation in Crimea now.

1. We don't do customizations - this is the policy and we are not offshore
programming company.
2. I can't forecast any xpowerlinks upgrades, because it going in a
lowest priority between 10's other projects we have. The last events in adult industry added so many tasks to do and so many risks to leave this business, - you see I cant give any forecasts, sorry.
So, these guys are busy with other things and won't be doing any work with XPL any time soon. I'm posting this mainly because I've been extremely frustrated by the lack of info on the update, I know several other users who are as well, and I'm assuming there are plenty more on this board who have been wondering.

I've finally gotten around to fixing one or two little things that irritate me about the script, for example the fact that you can't set your own default "featured status" "weight" and "rating" for submitted links, and I'm happy to share these fixes with anyone who asks, free of charge.

If there's something or other that irritates you about the script functionality wise and it's a minor thing, post it here and I'll see if I can do something about it, again...free of charge. I'm extremely familiar with the script at this point and I know my way around it pretty well

I'd like a built in banner rotator, category specific please, if it's not too much trouble. When can you have it ready?

LOL...I'll put that on the wish list for the script I'm writing

Fixes currently available:

---set your own default values for "featured status", "weight", "rating", "# of votes" and "postion" for submitted sites

---delete all declined links at once instead of losing your mind deleting them one by one.

It is bad news for me, because I bought this script only for free update to second version. I added following features to XPL and can make them available for public use:
1) Search requests should be kept in a database. First, it will allow to analyze traffic. You will know, what is your surfers are looking for. Second, surfers enter at your linklist the same requests, as like on a search engines. Analysis of these requests can sometimes very help in SEO. And I added a PPC search engine to script, I show paid search results to the right of main column.
2) Distribution of the information from database in RSS format. Linklist uses the same principle of distribution of the information, as RSS feeds, however I saw nice orange button "XML" only at couple of LL's till now. At the same time, RSS is already a very popular format, there are exists RSS feed catalogs, including that are accepting adult RSS feeds (shas3.com), and working only with adult RSS feeds (adultping.com). Yahoo and MSN are allow to add feeds into My Yahoo and My MSN accounts (this is mainly the same, like "add to bookmarks ", but it is a little bit more comfortable because now your surfer will be always instantly informed about the latest updates in your linklist). I think, that RSS feeds one more small advertisement place for adult webmasters. Support of such feature could become the big advantage of a script.
3) Many linklists will not list galleries. However some posters do not understand it and continue with enviable persistence post their galleries to such linklists, not paying attention to declines. Usually linklist owners will put such posters into blacklist, but I have added check during submit, whether index page contains links to jpg, gif or png files. In this case script prints out an error message, with the offer to write an e-mail to LL owner.
4) Dynamic generation of Google Sitemap, which help me for quick and effective indexation by Google.
5) I have not added such feature into my linklist, but I shall make it in the near future. Pseudostatic links using mod_rewrite is a great thing, but I think, that script should have an possibility to generate real static pages on a schedule. Due to it loading on a database will considerably reduced.
6) Partner accounts probably will be an useful feature.
7) Pentarh has his own freesite checker at http://admin.all-sex-links.com/checker/. It's a tool that can help quick check freesite for broken links, thumbs and images and also for some other frequent mistakes in freesites. In my admin area I have a quick link for checking every site by this tool. So, I not need to go to the address above, I check freesites with one click. Though I see that this checker is a bit of buggy and I thinking about making my own in future.
8) Anchor {ITEM_CAT_URL} does not work properly in Category page template, though I saw in documentation that I can use it in this template. Fixed.
9) Banner rotation with phpAdsNew
10) Pinging of XML RPC servers (weblogs.com and others - bloggers know what is it) right from admin area.

Exclamation

This is the direct translation from Crimea

Hi guys. Anyone know how many troubles people got due to these four numbers: '2257'. I am and my partner own more than 180 adult domains (xpowerlinks is not the only one project). Anything else you could imagine individually I guess.

So, as soon as we will gather our plans (not only 2257 changes) into one way, then we will finish all xpowerlinks feature requests.

Just dont panic.
