How To Fight Search Engine Spammers
I have been contacting affiliates and also contact Google and other search engines with the cheeting domains. But I want to contact the ISPs and if the ISP doesn't shut them down I am going to send all the info including affiliate info the the FTC and FCC can use to shut down the ISP who allows illegal activities. How do you find out the ISP?

Since when search engine 'spam' illegal???
Not that I like when my sites get burried under a ton of 'cheating' domains and pages, but yet again, this is not illegal.

Like abs said, spamming SEs is 100% legal unless you are infringing on trademarks or copyrighted material.
Why do you even waste your time? You would seriously be better off working on the traffic to your sad little linklist and whatever other projects you might have. Hunting down spammers won't make you any more money b/c I can guarantee that there are a hundred more legit sites which will fill the gaps above yours, let alone a thousand other spammers. I had some domains banned and seized by the registrar yesterday b/c of some self righteous prick like you. It was my own fault, but I was a bit miffed at losing over 90,000 pages, one of the domains had 15K backlinks and the others had about 6K. But you know what? It barely made a dent in the grand scheme of things, and I had replaced the stuff and was up and rocking by that afternoon - and I am just an amateur compared to some people. You're just wasting your time. |

Registrars don't usually pull domains without reason? Huh? For search engine 'spam'? ![]() PS: There's also a difference between bad and illegal. You show hardcore sex materials to minors on your site. It's bad, but not illegal. PS2: I am not defending the SE 'spam'. Just want to make a point it is NOT illegal. ![]()

Verbal I fully admit that those domains were raping Google hard, that is not the point... they had been banned from G the day before but I was disappointed the registrar took them, the residual Yahoo traffic would have been sweet.
I'd also like to point out that none of my domains have a single picture on them ![]() So explain to me how you aren't wasting your time? It might take your x minutes (or hours in gideon's case) to try to track down a fraction of someone's network and fill out a spam report (which is almost totally ineffectual anyway)... but it takes me 1/2 a second to push the button and then I'll take the dog for a walk while the pages are uploading, and the next day I'll be back sitting where I was. I even have a little song I sing to myself every time I generate some more crap: "Now's the time for you to push the button, Now's the time for you to get that caasshhh!" as I laugh in glee, and ruefully think back to all the time I wasted as a free site builder, when I could have been getting rich as a linux geek. Anyway, I am just trying to provide a different perspective to the very singular view which is espoused on GG&J... trying to fight SE spam is like trying to fight the tide. |

Absix, don't confuse me.
![]() Registrars don't usually pull domains without reason. Meaning the domains must've been reported for doing something illegal. The fact that they're admittedly also full of SE spam is just more icing on the cake... but yeah, doubtful they were pulled for SE spam alone. Rorschach, what reason did the registrar have for pulling the domains?

serp spam can be fought legally. in germany, there have been many convictions for what might be translated into 'unfair competition'. but also copyright fraud, trademark violation and more are issues a serp spammer is running into if pushing it too hard.

And Gideon, please explain what you think is illegal on these domains you found that you're trying to report everywhere.
Are they just spamming the SERPs or actually doing something illegal?

Verbal - the domains were all 100% technically legal afaik, that's the reason I do it how I do it. The registrar (GoDaddy) hasn't deigned to reply yet, but they changed the nameservers to NS1.SUSPENDED-FOR.SPAM-AND-ABUSE.COM which I thought was kind of funny.
![]() Gideon - has it occured to you that calling the FTC down on people in your own industry isn't the best thing to do - I was just first getting cranking when Maxcash had to stop payouts temporarily b/c of their FTC courtcase thing - and it really sucked. Rocco - got any links? Absix - is a sexy twink! ![]() |

The FTC mainly delves in scam-based operations and protecting consumers.
I doubt they'll respond to a SE spammer request. My $0.02. ![]() Rorschach: As a fellow SEOer, I learned my lesson the hard way to stay away from GoDaddy. Hope you have too. ![]() If you are planning on becoming an ICANN-accredited registrar (which is a must in the domain industry), you do know that you will have to pay fees to ICANN?

I think once we let the scammers, spammers and down right dodgey people get away with what they are diong, we will find ourselves being over run with this rubbish. I report kiddy porn people, trojan wankers and this kinda shit all the time. And i will continue to do so. If everyone reported these things, im sure the internet would be a different place indeed.
But hey, thats just me!

One other thing, if you are wanting to find out who owns the box.. Do a simple dns on either the domain name - and then do another one on the ip you get there, to see if it is the same addy. Thats a start anyways to finding out who the fuckwit is

Rorschach: I am not from Germany, but here you find one of those decisions:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...chinenspamming Interesting is that the court mentions "search engine spamming" in the title and mentions google. It also calls meta-tag-spamming and cloaking (for improving se-rankings) as illegal (google translation: 'competition adversity'). |
