Is the thrill gone?
I've been spending quite a bit of time getting trades to some of my blogs and I am seeing ALOT of blogs that dont get updated very often, some really out of date. Seems atleast 60% dont get updated too often. Any one else seeing this, or am I just looking at the wrong blogs?
Did every one jump on the bandwagon then find it too time consuming? Or too much work? Just curious... ronnie |

It's pretty much human nature I think. Something looks like easy money and when the going gets rough etc etc. It wouldn't surprize me if the dropoff rate with blogs is similar to that of adult webmastering in general.
I started my blog as a hobby and manage (so far) to update it once or twice a week. Since I don't expect to make any mony from it any time soon I won't let it steal time from what does provide a modest income: Building and submitting, building and submitting...

i've read it and said it here several times. its true. most blogs dont last 6 months. which is fine  those pages are always there for the engines, just like anything else you build.but a fresh constantly updated one like fleshbot, boingboing, etc... those are the real money. I think its dying down a bit now and the true bloggers are seperating out from the weekend warriors. but a lot of blogs that were around 6 months ago are still doing great |

yeah I hope to find someday my formula/niche or whatever and can be succesful like those places....until then I'll keep working on my blogs

That is the very reason I haven't started a blog yet. I don't see myself finding enough daily inspiration at the moment to make it a worthwhile venture. I was invited to post at a friend's blogs months ago and never managed to get around to it. What would I do with my own?

It's the same discipline problem either you build and submit to lists or TGP day after day, or you update your blogs, day after day. You have to stick at it, whichever you decide to do.

for me it's hard not to blog..I'm finding inspiration through out the day...I went to school for journalism so I cant stop writing sometimes on my blogs...I find myself writing way too much sometimes on my blogs that are just suppose to be feeders...but hey it's a for of the adult biz that I'm pretty good with and allows me to write/be craetive so I'll probably be doing it for a while

2msacras i share your sentiment. I love blogging. I Love knowing people are reading what I write. I love getting feedback from surfers. Its just fucking what I was born to do, I think.
One thing I want to point out here in this thread though for folks.... Its ok to let a blog die. Its ok to end an unsuccessful project. If you've worked for 6 months and you're still not seeing SE hits or enough bookmarkers or enough sales or hits to make it worthwhile, its ok to shut one down and move onto the next. Or completely revamp the blog. Or any of the above. Its like any other project, if it doesnt work, move on. There is no reason to stick to a project you dont like or isnt profitable. Its highly suggestable to revamp it and move on. If you've given it a fair amount of time and its still not perfoming the way you'd hoped... for the most part I'd hope people would revamp rather than quit but some people dont have what it takes to stick to it  |

I think many people make it a "job" and end up dreading it. Also, as Lemmy said, think so many still looking for the quick buck in this biz, but those days are pretty much gone.
I enjoy blogging, creating a interesting story, just wish I was a better writer and not so pressed for time. I agree with Boogie, those that are fresh and updated on a consistant basis are the goldmines. ronnie |

I'm one of the guys who seems to have lost steam now - and I think I know why. If I had thought up a writing theme for my blogs they might have succeed better because then I would know what to write about every day. Right now I just blurt out some random gibberish about a paysite and put in some ref codes and hope for a signup.
One of my blogs is http://tinytitsblog.com/ - does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for this one? With a writing theme i mean like "I'm a porn photographer", "I'm Joe Porn Surfer" etc.

I've also seen this, i currently have a blog directory and i've seen many blog dying. At the moment i wait for about 2 weeks to validate the blog submissions, because most newbies starting a blog quit after 1 or 1,5 weeks. So when you take a look 2 weeks after the submission you see if it is regular updated and a couple of other factors.

I've recently added an aggregator feature to Adult Home listing updated pages. Only about 20% of the blogs listed in the database updates.

that's a kind of pathetic number...i guess everyone wants a quick buck...it took me a while to actually get a sale from a blog and a while longer before it started to become steady...but I guess you have to do it at least half for the enjoyment of blogging or you won't make it
