Gas Shortage
Hey everyone, I just drove home from work and every gas station I passed had a line of at least 10-40 cars around it trying to get gas here in Orlando FL. They are warning we may run out by friday and the counties are buying fuel from gas stations with tanker trucks. The schools are warning they may also be out by friday and that parents would have to drive the kids in to school. What a NIGHTMARE.....anyone remember Mad Max.....

No shortage of gas here.. |fart|
Sorry I spent 2 hours with a group of friends at the park tonight. It was all about gas prices etc. etc. on and on!! I'm not making light of all the gas trouble, saw this thread and thought eck! So just being silly. If we could harvest the kind of gas above that goes on in my home you'd all be set for gas and it would be cheap... ![]() |

I had to fill up my tank last night, and there were lines for an hour and a half after rush hour. . .
I don't have the option of riding my bike to work, or going into the next room, my job is 45 mins to an hour away, depending on traffic!! I don't even have a bicycle! ![]() |

Mindy, that is where you have to ask for a telecommuniting job! Working from home is the biggest gas and time saver you will every see.
No shortage of gas here, but at 1.349 per litre (about 4.35 converted to a US gallon) there is no reason for there to be a shortage. ![]() ALex |

I watched the local gas station changed the price from 273.9 to 315.9/gallon yesterday. And yet, for some unexplained reason, diesel is still more expensive. I forgot to look today but I am sure it went up even higher overnight.
So, here is what I don't get. The gas in the station tanks is bought and paid for. So, why does the price go up before they need to resupply? |

Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and old people are useless
|
When I left the office last night the gas station on the corner was at $3.49 - I stopped at Costco and it was only $2.69. Gotta Love that membership.

I was on a plane when the first Gulf War broke out. Gas was .99/gallon when I took off, $1.55/gallon when I landed.
Gas stations use average pricing, however, they also do anticipatory pricing. So, if they know the next tank is going to cost them 1.50/gallon, and the current tank was .80/gallon, they immediately raise the price to cover the 'new' tank cost. However, due to some fluke in the economics, price drops do NOT filter down as quickly and take months to work in. In some states, they are not allowed to raise the price until they get a new tank filled. Also, in some states the gas company cannot own any of the stations. However, no matter what the gas station owners say (and I wanted to be an owner a few years back and am I glad I didn't do that), they are gouging because they can. Its a product that people need and no matter how much the customers bitch and moan, they will still buy gas. Exxon did a ton of research to find out what type of advertising worked best to get people to buy their gas -- they determined that there are two factors that make their gas sell quickly. Company sponsored Gas cards or cheap prices. If you accept more people and get more gas cards out there, people will buy even if there is a slight premium because tomorrow's money is easier to spend than today's money.

Diesel costs way to much right now. I am running Off-Road Diesel in my truck. It is way cheaper, but it is also illegal to run on a highway... 13 gallons costed $30.00 thats about $2.30 a gallon I guess. They only check large trucks any ways... (I hope)

SE areas of the US will be hardest hit.
Fortunately we get gas from our friends to the North. (Canada) 4-5 bucks?? We may see it. Welcome to reality. Good thing we've had the technology for 100 mpg cars for years. What are the Big 3 building this year???
