Question My site is stand alone

For years my site has been stand alone and now I am thinking of using affiliates. Can anyone tell me about how many affiliates is the norm? I have no clue. I have no banners, links or exchanges on my site and I think it is time to do so. I have a lot of members but I need more traffic. Thanks for any suggestions!

You are asking a lot of questions with just that one post. There is a lot to go into an affiliate program. First, when you say you are thinking of using affiliates, I assume you mean starting a partnership program through your credit card processing company. If not, it's a whole new ballgame. There really isn't a norm for a number of affiliates. Get as many as you can get. If you have your own content, give a lot of it away. Start by giving the major percentage to those that send traffic and just build up.

There is a lot that goes into any affiliate program. Be ready for it.

LindaMight - one thing that I did notice when I looked at your site is the cost. Assuming that you go thru CCBill & have a 50/50 partnership program, I think you'd be hard pressed to find people to promote you if you're paying $3 for the trial & $6.50 for the recurring (this is because a lot of us are spoiled with $20-35 payouts per signup)

You do have a very unique niche there, so maybe it will sell to the point where people would promote it even if the payout is much less then they are used to receiving. Just one of those things you have to consider

& Just an FYI - Jim has owned or been VP for 4 major affiliate programs - he knows his shit

Well thats a ton of questions, but some great answers in only 2 posts. Jim certainly knows his stuff, and GG is no brick in the wind either.

GG hits on a great point, the biggest question you need to ask yourself before moving forward is, how good is your content base, meaning how much of it do you have? Reason I say that is because if you have the right ammount and mix of content, raising your price of membership would be a good step, and testing during this step is important, because I can safely say that if im in a partnership program that pays me 50% of lets say $16, and the site retains at a level of 70% due to the great content mix and updates, than I have the chance to make a ton of money, however if that membership is $29.95 and im making 50% but the retention is 30% with 2 chargebacks or refunds in a weekly period, than I dont benefit to make a ton of cash and probably wouldnt stick around a long time with the program. So content Mix in my opinion is where it begins, from there you can decide pricing, payout, what type of tools you will offer affiliates, etc.

Thumbs up Hey thanks

Thanks for all the great insight! I have to say that I am impressed by you guys and the knowledge you have....makes my knowledge look um.....very very very small..:-)

I am only interested in an Affiliate program with my credit card company at present. I am not really wanting to get all entwined but think I need to at least get some traffic.

But I also think that I should discontinue the "trial" period of $5.95 too.

This is by far the best message board I've seen!

I am not a fan of trial memberships. I think the surfer who is interested in your site would pay a full monthly price.

Your site is quite different and the surfer will not be able to find similar content in a hurry, so you won't have too much competition out there.

I think the way a surfers mind works is..... they see what they are interested in and while turned on by the content, decide to buy. Price only becomes an issue if it is very high.

A low selling price sometimes can reflect badly on a site. It can give the impression that you are having trouble selling for a moderate price.

As for your niche, webmasters love niches and the opportunity to promote something different.

Here's some data from the Overture search engine about how many people were searching for your niche in the month of October.

118844 clitoris
6623 clitoris picture
5551 big clitoris
4423 large clitoris
3250 huge clitoris
2888 clitoris pic
2857 clitoris piercing
2225 clitoris photo
1610 female clitoris
1236 enlarged clitoris
1041 clitoris stimulation
883 clitoris size
840 giant clitoris
814 where is the clitoris
747 temple of clitoris
740 erect clitoris
713 pierced clitoris
649 clitoris anatomy
648 big clitoris picture

There is a nice market for your content.

I'd certainly promote it with a decent return.

and one of the standards of economics *besides, buy low, sell high, make a profit*.. is:

It's always easier to Lower your price than it is to raise it.

and with your unique niche i do think you could command better pricing. Since you have a following already, maybe keep them as "gold" members and for the new ones coming from affiliates, have a better pricing.

Good Luck!!

Hey thanks for the info. I am going to delete the free trial membership this week. As far as whether I am going to raise the monthly fee, I am not sure what I should raise it to actually. I update the site every single week with at least 20 new pictures and I just added webcam that is no extra cost at all. There are over 2500 pictures and about 100 video clips (all are very short) on the site and no advertising whatsoever. So based on that what is a normal price?

Believe it or not, up until last year it was only $9.95 a month and I raised it to $12.95. And yes I know there is quite a niche for what I seem to "pack in the panties".... it is just a matter of getting the search engines to find me I guess. I've submitted quite a bit but I must be doing something wrong with my keywords or something. I'll figure that part out.

I know I have a lot of questions...and I apologize.....it's just that I've never had a "forum" experience that actually worked! This is way too cool!

it would seem to me with your niche you could charge at least 29.95 a month.. as long as your 'tour' gave a good description of what you have to offer, you stick to a reg. schedule on your cam etc.. i'm sure you can command that at least.

My Big Boob girls and Latex niches get that for their sites with 1 cam show a week *30 minutes is the standard for us*, and i'm sure you could match that tho you might want to look around and see if there are others who are similar and what they charge.

Linda,

Greenguy is correct. It is very hard to get affiliates when the sign-up price is low !

I offer a two months for 29.95 with my site . The customers really love it and my affiliates make more. I might even bring back my 3 month special !

You could do something like two months for 22.95 and tell them what they are saving !
