Thumbs down Webair?

When I first started out I was getting my hosting through Webair. I cancelled them because the tech support was I thought unfriendly to say the least. Since I was first starting out my thoughts were they were a bit expensive at $20 per mo. I tried to cancel several times and they kept rebilling me. After several E-Mails, and phone calls I had to turn my card off. Now come to find out that they will not let me use any of the domains they sold me. Is this normal of Webair, and of hosting companys in general? I just think this is wrong. I am a fair guy and I will say I thought there hosting was ok, Just expensive for not making any money at the time. This is complete crap!

No. I was with webair. The tech support was very helpful on the two occassions I needed them. I cancelled my account per their instructions and it was cancelled immediately and without any question and I even received a thank you for working with us E-mail.

The main reason I left was because I started adding more scripts and they were running a tad slow on their virtual servers. Oh and that account only cost me $10 a month.

I am still with Webair, and haven't had any problems. In fact, I've always been able to get tech support live or on the phone in minutes for any questions or problems I do have, and they're generally very helpful.

Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble

I've never hosted with Webair, but I have heard a lot of positive things about them...with their service almost always receiving high marks.

It's hard to imagine a reputable host like Webair would hold on to domains you bought and paid for...there's got to be some mis-communication somewhere. I'd suggest you go up the food chain a bit and talk to someone in management...I'd bet they'll get you sorted out

I have a few domains hosted at Webair. The only problem I have ever had with them was when I set up service they wanted a copy of my Driver's License.

Other than that, everything has been fine. The one time that I used tech support they were very helpful. I haven't canceled, so I don't know how that would go...

that has been required by every hosting company I have ever used, im with ev1servers now, and i had to send them a copy. no problem IMO if it helps keep someone from stealing my shit! (again!)

Really? I have 6 hosting companies that I use, one is a dedicated server. Webair is the only one who ever asked for a DL and it was for a 9.95 virtual server. I thought it was strange at the time but no biggie...

I have been with Webair for 2 years and like Preacher I had some speed issues with databases when I was on virtual, but support has always been snappy.

I can't believe that they're the kind of host that would snatch your domains, it has to be some sort of misunderstanding. Maybe their board presence reads this and comes to clear things up.

The domain issue is the only issue I have a problem with. I mean to my understanding if you buy a domain, it is yours. You can use it as you wish and thats why you can point it to different host right? I have heard of companys like godaddy doing this sort of thing but not really companys like webair. I will attempt today to get this taken care of.
Here is what was said.
My EMail:
I have a domain it is still valid. I need to log in so I can point it to my current host. My hosting account
has been cancelled. How do I do that? My log on and password do not work for the
control panel???

Hello,

Your domain is still active until 05/07 therefore in order to direct traffic to
and through that name you will need to reactivate your account for hosting
services.
Please let me know of any further questions you may have.

Regards,

Kristen

I agree, that's a BS reply. Somebody from Webair should step up and cut through the red tape.

Yea CHH, that doesn't sound right at all...again, I'd suspect if you get to someone in management...this issue can be resolved.

A heads up for future reference though...I'd never buy a domain through my host. Get a good registrar through which to purchase your domains, and you'll avoid these kinds of issues in the future.

Perhaps the resolution to this issue would be to ask them to transfer the domain to a new registrar. It 'may' be that Webair only acts as registrar for their own hosting accounts...pure speculation there.

Does your login for the domain name you registered work here? I think webair is a tucows reseller and it appears that domain names are considered separate from their hosting.

Yes that does work. Thanks! I was using the control panel domain, and I found two others, but not this one. This is the only place it work but good enough. Now I am really confused by that responce. I did E-mail a supervisor but I dont think that had anything to do with it. It was like ten minutes ago. See what I mean though, that was really misleading e mail responce. I think, anyway. When I was with them, I was new. Really new. I do know now that domains, and hosting shouldnt be under the same roof. I now buy my domains through directnic. I hear there good at least for domains. Thanks for the help..

I used to use webair, a couple of my virtual accounts slowed way down then their support left me hanging one time, so I moved to Colo-Cation. Webair and I ended up in a big pissing contest and they billed me for all but one of my virtual accounts, they refunded every penny the following month even though I had called them every shade of asshole there is.
If Sparky won the lottery and closed up shop I would go back

Hosting with Webair too, besides the massive problems they had last year where my server was down about 24 hours and I lost $300-400 that day I never had a problem with them yet.
They gave me the month for free then so nothing to complain.

That's the same shit that happened with me to the T. I don't think their systems call a DB every well. Took forever for my site to load from there severs. Went back to my old hosting (Naked Hosting) have to love a company with that name. Never had any issues, tech support is very very good and I could not be happier with the speed and uptime of my sites. Been with them for about 4 or 5 years now and my sites have never ever been down. $30 for virtual, well spent.

I was with webair when I first started and canceled without problem. Then I spent the next few years moving from host to host trying to find the same quality of service and never found it. So, I went back to Webair and I don't plan on leaving because they are by far the best customer service I have had with a hosting company.

I have been with webair since day one, yes I have had some issues though they sort it right out and if they dont do it quickly they have ALWAYS appologised.

I set up anotehr hosting account though never moved - I now send my mainstream clients to webair - good guys who dont seem to hide when the shit hits the fan :-)

I forgot - I wish webair would do one thing - a certain forum who Jim from here has stated is a cheat and that has registered me and posted as me. S----r C--t the onwer is called butcher - if webair were to do one thing that would make a million webmasters happy it would be to close their board down.

I hear good things and bad things about the company. One thing I do notice that seems to be across the board is everyone who is with them tends to say "we had a problem or problems 1 time or another and they fixed it" "Great customer service" etc. In this busniess you can't afford to have problems. I don't even talk to the customer service reps at my company. I don't know who they are cause there is never a problem. When I do contact them it's to change something I want changed and that always takes place with in 5 mins. I can't help but think I did not have good service from webair. I think it more of a lower standard hosting company. IE you get what you pay for and really can't complain after that. How can you really complain to someone you are giving $10 a month to?
