Review request
Doing up my second freesite after the self imposed break... could I get a review of this please before I submit it... something about it is nagging me but I think its all within the common accepted rules...
http://64.56.149.141/b/ The rule thats nagging me is the blind links one... PS, the ip addy is obviously just temporary...

Other than the ip address and no domain name its look fine to me. Still, some LL will reject you for the main page, where the link to galleries are the smallest text size on the page. You may also consider to put .htaccess on your pics folder to prevent hotlinking.
Hope it helps, Sadman |

Your thumbs and pics are over-optimized. Bring your thumbs up to 5-7kb each and your full size pics to 30-80kb. They aren't clear enough right now.
You should make your Enter and gallery links larger. Is her name supposed to be Chloe? Chole doesn't seem right.

A good suggestion to work from:
600px on the long side in the MINIMUM desired picture size. That doesn't mean you have to make everything that size. Don't be so constrained, you can do 650 or 700 on the long side without issue. If your images get down under 40k, you really need to worry about the quality of the image. Bandwidth these days is relatively inexpensive, so moving up to 60k per picture should not bankrupt you. Also, if you have larger images that have the model a little further away from the camera than you like, consider cropping the images as opposed to just shrinking the image, provided you are allowed to do this by your content license. This can really help make those images pop. Moving to slightly large thumbs will keep people from clicking on every picture, which can actually save you bandwidth and offset the punishment for having larger images as I mentioned above. Finally, clearer images may help you if you are selling a higher quality sponsor (the old asian4you program had really nice sponor content, the quality of the images sold the site). Don't be shy to show your sponsor off well. Alex |

Thanks Alex, that makes a hell of a lot of sense...
Ironically (pissoffedly actually) bloody ISP's in Western Canada have been slow to adopt the concept of cheaper bandwidth... the main concern regarding BW for me is coz I run the hosting side of the business off the same pipe and even though there are limits predefined in that for the customers regarding how much transfer they can get as part of the plan they are on, its bad for business for the little guy like me to enforce it if they do occasionally go over... my ISP does not feel the same way though ![]()

Well, honestly, you don't have to host in Calgary just because you are in Calgary. The net is a big place, and servers in the US, in eastern Canada, or even in Europe are just about as close as anything else.
I have been looking at Calgary as a place to move to (get away from the Quebec taxes!). ![]() Alex |

I bloody LOVE Alberta... we all got $400 checks from the government just for living here.. cant beat that
![]() I started this whole thing when I bought an antiquated Compaq Proliant 2500 from a guy on the Calgary newsgroups for $200 and started fiddling with it... it took me almost seven weeks to figure out how to install RedHat on that piece of crap and make it see both processors (the old proliants are notorious for not supporting multi processor kernels for anything but Windoz)... I know I could move everything somewhere else and rest easier and pay LOT less money and be done with the hassle but where is the fun in that? Truthfully, I like having my own hardware, and the root passwords to everything ![]()
