Well I went wireless today

Got my 2nd modem, all my pci cards, and have gone wi-fi. Ran speed tests, I'm getting a faster connection with the wi-fi then I got with the wires. I had an A/B switch to switch back and forth between the two wired internet connections, and I remember being told years ago that it could "slow down" your connection, they might have been correct, I was pretty suprised to have a faster connection.

Tomorrow, I hook MadHatter's Link List checking computer up. Right now though, we can't seem to share files, even though we are using the same router but me wireless, and him with the wired portion. I have a feeling it is because my wireless connection is encrypted, does that make sense? I'm really tired, lol.

Check to see if the Windows firewall is turned on for the wireless connection.

We are sharing files now. Took me less than 1/2 and hour to set up his link list checking computer, now that we are both on the wireless encrypted network, we can go back and forth just fine.

Now I just need to pull the wires out thorugh all the holes in the walls running to the various parts of the house and roll them up and store them, although doubt I will be going back to that. Anyone need some 50' cat 5 cables? Maybe I can sell them on ebay, lol.

Actually we have to leave one cable for the lap top. I think I'd rather upgrade my lap top and get one with a wireless card in it, then pay close to $70 for a wireless usb connector for it. It is so darn old and outdated it is why spend more money on it?

i would be leaving the cable in place, in the future you could face major dramas with your wireless when your neighbours start using wireless also , not to mention drops out from cordless phones etc causing major problems
so just keep the cable there as backup
