Yes, it really is getting a lot closer.

I saw this on the news this morning.

This article doesn't mention it, but the story on television this morning talked about how you can pause and rewind, but not fast forward. Which they're disabling so they can sell the commercial time online. :::shakingHead:::

So, they still don't understand that people *want* to fast forward, particularly past the commercials (though that's not the only reason). People will still prefer DVRs/Tivo until they release control of the fast forward button.

It's going to take a new ad delivery model to make this work. Just forcing people to watch the commercials isn't going to cut it. And if they try to add some kind of static or scrolling ad, I think they'll really be dooming themselves.

Simon, I think they are still trying to find what financial model will really make this go. Do they go down the Itune route and sell access for 99 cents a shot, which is outside of their usual "free" model, or do they stay free but support it with unavoidable and unmissable ads?

I am also looking at this model as a breakthru for anyone wanting to make a lower end / lower dollar TV show of their own. If people are use to paying 99 cents to download a TV show, they won't blink when someone asks the same thing. It should also make PPV porn a little more acceptable as a concept.
