I don't have to be careful. I got a gun
|
![]() Almost one and a half years I have a blog I often updated and post (nothing serious, nothing fancy just for fun) but I've neglected maintenance completely. Neglect!? Well ... recently I've discovered I had around 100.000 SPAM comments!?
![]() How do You people cope with that!? I mean what do You do to prevent it and keep Your blogs open for real visitors comments!? Need a bit help on this one :-) I use Movable Type and moving to another script is not an option! Thanks in advance for help people! |

Hey, can you take the wheel for a second, I have to scratch my self in two places at once
|
Funny... The cms that I am using is pretty robust. I see a lot of odd bot requests for specific pages but it seems that spammers pass me by. I think I have had two cases of Spam on DeletedBrain, and that's it.

Spam Karma for wordpress is delicously awesome. other than that, I have a bunch of keywords that are autoblacklisted via wordpress.
Barring the handful of ones that slip through just a manual turn down of those comments works fine. you ant imagine the number of scripts i have trying to post on boogie-blog.com tho |

Ya, I was getting alot, turned mine all off. Dont get comment spam anymore but sure wish I could turn off the trackback pings, any one know how to do that? Even have thought about complaining to the domains/hosting that keep pinging. Could it be threated as a dos attack? They are sure NOT relavent and they never have links, they just ping. Just tired of the ping messing up my stats as they are not hits.
Though a couple people have got me to thinking about trying some filters and such for spam, and yes, thanks for the link Walrus... ![]() I also use movable type and love it, they do have the "type pad" registration you could try, I have'nt set it up myself yet, lazy, no time. But the surfer has to register to comment, wondering how it would work, if surfers would'nt take the time to register. ronnie |

hey ronnie ... You might wanna try to "Force "preview" before allowing comment submissions" ...it seams like the fastest solution (at least in my case ... talk about lazy ;-)). I'll post the results ...
other than this, at lease for now, don't know what to do just don't have the time or the will like Boogie to take care of the problems ... it just amazes me how SPAM scripts keep on posting even when I prevented and took down all the links for comments!? I'm gonna mail MT guys to see what they will say ... |
