.xxx Comments ???

http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-tld-agreement/

I was hoping to see a number of the more organised thinkers here sending comments about .xxx but I haven't seen any. I posted mine and I think that any comment that's well thought out, avoids anger and is written in a professional manner (spell checking) could only help the cause. Of course comments written in an unprofessional manner may not help.

If you want to help send comments to xxx-tld-agreement@icann.org

Robert Smith seems to be the only one supporting it on there... he does seem like quite a dip.

read your post and also sent a mail for my own post. I agree with you that the features that already come with most broswers is a good way to go. What I would like to see is a reversal in how these browser work. Right now, stright out of the box you can surf porn with them, it would just be so much easier if they restricted everything right off the bat. First time you run your browser, you get a wizard that you must complete in order to surf. The interface would allow you to shut off the restricted sites, not turn it on as it would already be on. No need for a parent to do anything after that other then hit next.

I like this guy:
As a father I am very concerned about .xxx consequenses - Anders Pedersen
Honestly, if protecting children is the goal, then .xxx is short thinking and not the answer! The problem is not the legit adult sites, but too many parents do not have the technical knowledge to install a simple thing as a software. Instead of spending time and money on something that will only create new problems for us responsible parents and the schools, the government should spend more time and money on teaching parents and schools how to protect their children. And maybe cooperate with the legit part of the adult business, instead of trying to control which is impossible globally. That is the only way!

Okay, so they have another thread also.

PS: Did anybody read down far enough to see this???

Apparently there must be some sort of an annoying mail in campaign going on:

Quote:
I am opposed to the establishment of the triple X domain. You should be working to get pornography off the Internet, not putting more on it!
About half the posts have the same message in them.

The loony mail campaign is all dated August 16 2005. Perhaps that's an old page? At least those of us who are speaking against the tld have reasoned arguments behind us.

I've posted mine, it's not showing up yet.

They send you a confirmation mail, you have to follow and click "yes", and then it takes hours / days to get it actually up there.

It is truly NOT intereactive.

F*CK THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I've been online since late 96
This is not good at all

Creating an internet porn ghetto so it can be more manipulated/controlled

This is damn bad !

They just can't ban .com or .net domains
.xxx of course they can
I'm talking about countries that could ban or control access to .xxx domains

Sadly, even with all of our comments in there, the reality is more than likely profit motivation.

ICANN is looking at taking in millions of additional dollars by selling .XXX domains that they know will get purchased in large numbers, even though much if it will be a combination of speculators and people attempting to protect existing .com properties.

Further, it will allow the group IFFOR to generate tens of millions of dollars each year to finance it's operations - for something that should come from the ground roots up, not from the top down.

Combining a TLD with a non-profit "how to work on the web group" creates huge issues in regard to things like freedom of speech, the good old "who decided this for me", and would very quickly allow extremely conservative people to dictate "best policies" to the group. Remember, if you don't adhere to the policies of this group, your .XXX domain will be revoked.

So beyond all the bad points of .XXX from a purely logical standpoint, this overwhelming and overpowering organization hanging over it is even worse, and adds another level of potential and probably manipulation from anti-porn groups.

It is a fuck from the word go, and It isn't going to stop any time soon.

Even the US government, which desperately is trying to fuck up the porn business doesn't want this.

Adult Webmasters!! .xxx Last Chance To Oppose it

This is the last weekend that you can make your voice heard in opposition to the creation of the .xxx TLD.

xxx-tld-agreement@icann.org

* Send an email to ICANN
* It does not have to be a long letter.
* You can just say "I oppose the creation of the .xxx TLD - We dont need it. "

The emails are posted to a forum here

http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-tld-agreement/

The creation of the .xxx may be the fist step in limiting access to our sites and the actual taking of our rights to our .com names.

This is important. Please take 2 minutes to send an email and then click the verify link you will receive to have your vote counted against .xxx .

Thank you.

I also sent them an email simply stating that I opposed the .xxx TLD and I confirmed the confirmation email they sent. Obviously, this isn't going to go away anytime soon.

here is my response to ICANN, let me know how it is:

As a business owner and internet surfer as well as a parent, I must object to the proposed formation by ICANN of the .XXX TLD. The .XXX TLD will not provide any further protection than is already in place, from various freely available parental control software programs, to keep children away from mature themed content, pornographic or otherwise, it will only start the internet as a whole on a slippery slope of unnecessary censorship and governmental control. In addition to unwanted censorship, the proposed .XXX TLD will also unfairly target a legitimate business that has diligently since its inception fought against the victimization of children, namely though industry funded organizations that seek out child predators and child pornographers and work with authorities in adding there capture and ultimate prosecution.

A more viable alternative to the proposed .XXX TLD would be to implement the formation of a .KIDS TLD, which would be regulated at the registration level, preventing any interest or organization from purchasing and using a .KIDS domain name for anything other than a web site gear towards children’s education and entertainment.

In conclusion, I would like to point out that never was the internet intended for children, or to be used as a child’s unmonitored “babysitter”, the internet is a microcosm of the world itself and therefore is a very dangerous, but exciting place to explore and learn as well as interact with various culture’s and to do business. By starting the slippery slope of internet censorship regulated by governmental bodies, opposed to self-censorship started in the home or by the individual themselves, we will find ourselves collectively with an internet that no one, myself included will want to visit!

Sincerely,

name edited

Why .XXX(actually .SEX when it was written in 2004) is a bad ideal from the legal, philosophical, and particularly, the technical points of view.
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3675.txt

Long read but they end up with sorta suggesting a PICS like labeling scheme.
