Anyone use hostroof.com?

I tried signing up for one of their plans but have not gotten a setup email after two days. Tried contacting them to no avail... Only correspondence was the email saying that I was charged money. Anyone have similar problems? -shaud

I've never heard of them. The host in my sig is who I use and I'm very happy with them.

PS: I deleted your duplicate thread for you.

I have just finished reading 3 threads on hosting companies that are either non-existent for service (like this one), that have servers that are down or that are questionable about hosting adult content.

People, please consider your hosting carefully - one of the biggest problems for newbies is that they chose a webhost based on unrealistically cheap prices and then they get screwed or banned when their host goes down.

Get in touch with your webhost and have a chat with them, see if they offer the level of support you need, see what others say about them before signing up. After all, your website is your income and having it hosted on servers that cannot handle adult traffic can mean the difference between failure and success.

cheers,

Luke

I used 'em briefly for some TGP stuff - nothing really wrong with 'em except a.) yes, I too had to email 'em to get setup info I should have had auto-mailed to me at signup, b.) I didn't care for their stats, and c.) they have hard limits on bandwidth, while taking a full week to get around to manually upgrading a hosting plan. So if I got a gallery listed with the Hun (don't laugh - it COULD happen ) and hit my bandwidth limit, my domain would have been off-line. I prefer hosting plans that will charge you for overage, but not cut you off.

Really it was more a matter of personal preference for me - they'd probably be a perfectly fine webhost for small players just getting started if they get their support response time improved.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think the hold up with the setup email was actually a problem with my crappy bank more than anything else. Thats a great point about the bandwidth lassiter, didnt think of that. But like you said I'm just a small fish right now and I can always change companies if/when it becomes a problem

Sometimes cheap bandwidth is good, as in "damn, that was cheap this month!"... othertimes cheap bandwidth is because your servers are connected to the net via a piece of wet noodle or something, and no matter how hard you hit the server, you can't seem to get more than about 300k a second. NOW THAT IS CHEAP BANDWIDTH!

It is always a good thing to find out from a host where they get THEIR connection from, and how much they claim to have. It is also important to find out how many servers they host for - then you can divide one number into the other and see how much bandwidth you are really likely to be getting. 100 servers on a T1 doesn't mean you are getting "100 mb net connection"... it just means your server will have a 100mb card in it... realistically you would be getting dialup speed connections... not real useful, ya know?

My host is in my sig. Go figure. Cleo's host is good too, from what I can tell ;-)
