Question Would you consider this a BLIND link?

Would you consider the following link a BLIND link and refuse to list a site that had it on it? And if so.... Why????

I'm feeling lucky!
Surprise Me!

Hugs,
Danielle

By definition, "Surprise Me" is a blind link. I really can't think of an instance where it wouldn't be blind but what do you have it pointed to?

I'd consider that a blind link unless the domain and/or site it was linked to happened to be called "Surprise Me" or "I'm Feeling Lucky".

That's as blind as it gets. "Surprise Me!" means you have no idea where it goes.

The link would point to a relative site to the niche. The reason I am NOT considering it a blind link (and would allow it) is because the surfer knows that when they click it they don't know where they will be going. The link becomes a game to them. Let's click it and see where we go.

It's not fooling the surfer. It's like Googles I'm Feeling Lucky button.

Hugs,
Danielle

LOL! Sorry it went over your head. Let me try to splain it in Engrish for ya.

If a surfer knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that a link is blind.... Will you as a link site link to the free site that has this type of link?

If you will not... Why not?

Hugs,
Danielle

Will you explain this to the surfer with surrounding text?

That is why the link would include the words "Surprise Me"

Danielle

The two words by themselves I'd consider blind (not that my opinion counts) but if it had text leading into it that would tell them they are going somewhere and they haven't a clue where that is I don't see a problem with a link that is not malicious.

Interesting

I see what you are saying, by the very definition of the link text 'surprise me' or 'lucky dip' etc, then it's not really blind, as the surfer knows it's a lucky dip type of thing.

I wouldn't use it on a freesite, or a page specifically geared towards a specific sponsor, but on a landing page where you have a choice of sponsors and/or pages selling a particular sponsor, then a link on the page saying 'surprise me' or 'lucky dip' whatever may generate some interested clicks. On such a page it doesn't matter than the link is blind anyway, so that's kinda moot.

On something as specific and targetted as a freesite, is there any reason you'd want a surfer to 'wander' off, physically and mentally, rather than keep him focused on selling the sponsor in question?

Not really anything to do with blind or not blind but you have to wonder how much a "surprise me" or "I'm Feeling Lucky" link gets clicked.

Before reading this thread, I don't think I ever clicked the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button on Google.
