Slight Server Problem :)

I have a home server that I use for music, movies and way too much crap I recently found out. A few days ago, I could not access it. When I went and looked at it, there were flashing red lights.
This is a Teraserver with 4 250 gig HDs. And, everynight it emails me saying, "I'm doing fine". When it died, it sent me the following email.

TeraStation Alert - RAID Error
HOMESERVER - RAID Array has an error.
[TeraStation Information]
TeraStation Name: HOMESERVER
RAID error occurred at: 2008/03/04 15:51:15
Disk Error: Disk 1 Disk 2 Disk 3 Disk 4

To me, it seems more than odd that all four HDs would take a shit at the same time.

I am thinking power supply...any other ideas?

You might need to swap out the component that's between the chair & the keyboard.

We've had 2 of 4 fail once. I would suspect controller or power problems. if the drives have no power, they would come up as failed. I would doubt controller problems if it is getting that far. Its possible that the drives are older drives that require 12V, and the motherboard in the machine only needs 5V to run.

NOTE: Everything below written before cd34's answer appeared above my post. Sneaky bastard... you were the more-qualified one I meant.
(Now if someone can just move my post above yours so it makes sense. Yeah, but then this note wouldn't. ... Nevermind.)

That would work, if you replace the component with a qualified Teraserver tech.

--

I'm no rocket surgeon so I can't tell you how to do it, but I think you may have to delete the array and set up a new one -- maybe there's an auto-setup utility? And choose "no" if there's an option to initialize the drives during the setup process.

Might be your RAID (SATA?) Controller.

Hopefully someone more qualified than we've demonstrated will be by soon.

If Simon was posting for me he would say "replace screen that has Start menu in lower left with that of a screen that has the Apple menu in upper left."

hmm. I sold NAS systems and I lost sales to the terrasation. the price under grand is very reasonable. the exenet boxes were 4-5 g's depending on the HD's. I have heard of multiple HD's going out at once but 4?

CD34 always will have the correct answer now that the bell rang in my head who he is. I think i need to contact him. I need to add tux to my server now that his sig pointed that out to me.

It just seems almost impossible for all 4 HDs to take a shit at the exact same time. I knew Sparky would know what was up. The Buffalo people say I should take the HDs out and hook them up to a unix based system.
