Webmaster affiliate referrals

We are about to 'get serious' and launch a small set of fetish content sites. In the 'getting serious' part we've reviewed a gaggle of affiliate account potentials and have seen a common thread - almost all the sites that we wish to affiliate for, or who you need an account with to do business (i.e. CCBill) offer webmaster referral programs; some with apparently tasty terms for the referring webmaster.

Yet in newbie forums such as this we've seen no 'newbie partner' exchange offers. Where an experienced webmaster offers basic guidance or direction for a newbie in exchange for the creation of new accounts under their webmaster referral. As a newbie it would not seem to cost me anything to approach some paysite's affiliate program via a webmaster referral rather than a direct link, and the commissions seem valuable.

Am I missing something here? Just that with some of the pros I lurk on GG&J -- I pay attention to every word they say (smile). When we get our new business running it will largely be due to their opinions and advice that we suckled on... Seems a shame they cannot get some leftover bucks where due.

Or is it a case where when we see a webmaster referral program offering a tasty lifetime override - that we have room to haggle with the program provider?

Around here I think people help because they were once a newbie & people helped them. Some people just like to help - I'm one of those people (don't let the board ads fool you - I did this for free for 5 years before Jim convinced to me sell ad space)

So as a whole, GG&Jim ask you to click on the board sponsors & those listed in our poorly managed (by me) resource area. And a lot of people find my stats helpful & click on those webmaster referral links.

That's not to say that your idea doesn't have merit - and I don;t think I'd have a problem with a known member starting something like that up & recruiting people for it.

I will also say that I have seen a couple of "webmaster schools" fail in my time. Since I never ran one, I have no idea if your idea was part of any of them.

Thanks Greenie. That has to be the most well-worded and polite "click MY links!" suggestion I could hope for (laughing); and valid too.

And yes, my head keeps falling off. It is what happens when one tries to assimilate the entire GG&J forum in one sitting.
