ICANN: Dot Anything Wins Approval

"A complete overhaul of the way in which people navigate the internet has been given the go-ahead in Paris. The net's regulator, Icann, voted unanimously to relax the strict rules on so-called "top-level" domain names, such as .com or .uk. The decision means that companies could turn brands into [TLD] web addresses, while individuals could use their names".

WTF, looks like we'll soon have top level domains up to 64 character in length!

Just when you thought the wild west was settling they cross over another mountain.

Guess its important to give the speculators more inventory for their auto-submit scripts to suck on.

I hate domainers with a passion! I hate any type of speculative fucktards, but I hate bloody domainers the most.

And I don't hate them cuz they buy or own the domains. No. Own 1 billion domains for all I care, BUT USE THEM FOR SOMETHING! Hell, put a picture of your cat on it, I don't fucking care!

These people just fuck it for everybody else. They buy a domain, DO NOTHING with it, then try to sell it back to you for the low-low price of 20k just appraised by one of their own "reputable appraisal services". Up your ass, bitch!

Boy I hate domainers... did I mention that?

It's not going to be as easy as just plugging your credit card into a form and buying a new TLD. There's a lengthy evaluation process to go through, http://www.icann.org/topics/gtld-eva...ss-16jun08.pdf and at $50k each, I don't think we'll see too many spammers trying to take advantage of it.

Still, I see no reason ICANN think more TLD's are needed, except to line their own pockets of course.

Golly gee Johnny, somehow I get the impression that you have a mild dislike for domainers?

There are domainers registering and holding over 10k names a month. You would think it buys a lot of influence on how it gets done; but the large-scale name scammers never have to pay for the registrations. They will move into term-leasing names soon np doubt... gag. A scam that ICANN permits to fester like a boil on our collective asses. Nothing like being offered a hoarded domain name for $15k which is not even really registered yet.

Fucktards is an understatement....

But who's pockets? Seems like its another gravy pipelline for Network Solutions. Without the root servers the new TLDs will have little value, eh? They will soak it in paperwork and formalities and bloat, they are very experienced at that.
