Yet another newbie

Hello,

I am a true newbie in that I have never done an adult site. In my every day life, I am a programmer and have also done software quality assurance (including security auditing for client/server and web applications) for five years. I've been doing Internet for about twelve years, starting out with Gopher and lynx. That said, I've always been curious about this business.

I've been reading this board for awhile and I was surprised to see that the community of webmasters is so helpful. If you need code-related help or whatnot, I offer my assistance free in exchange for the learning opportunity.

Anyhow, I would like to start off small. I don't really intend to make any profits at first (although that would be real nice) since I'm aware that the competition on the Internet is fierce and the average surfer has more than plenty destinations to choose from.

I would like to start an AVS site (and back it up with TGP). I would like to have no money investment to do in this site which really is an experiment and learning experience.

Here are my questions :

a) Where can I go in order to obtain a free adult hosting service? (if that is even possible?)

b) How can I add some content on the site for free (while still remaining legal of course) on an AVS site?

c) What are the chances of making even a penny with one AVS site?

d) Is there a better strategy than going for an AVS site? (I've read that a TGP is not a good idea for a newbie)

Thank for whatever hints you can give,

Entreri.

Hi there,

Welcome aboard.

I'm only a couple days old, but here's some of what I've gathered.

There's free hosting out there, but most of the TGP sites I've looked at have banned or are banning sites hosted on free hosting.

I've noticed some sponsors offer free hosting where you can promote their content. I've signed up with a couple of the through-my-sponsor hosts, but have had signup/login/upload/ difficulties with all of them, so I'm staying away from it for the time being.

I don't know about AVS, though it interests me, so I hope you'll get some good responses. Regarding money, I've had my site up for about a week and made $35 when someone signed up with one of my sponsors, so it IS possible.

Here's my What I've Learned in 2 Days thread, where some of us newbies tossed in some lessons learned. You may want to check it out.

Hi Entreri welcome to the board

I quit doing any AVS sites almost 2 years ago because they are dying IMO.

As for hosting you need to pay for a good host or you will regret it very quickly. There are too many problems with free hosting and sponsor hosting. Even if YOU do not see them they still exist and by the time you figure it out you will have lost some serious monies. Not to mention that 99% of the TGP's and LL with the good traffic won't list you on either a free host or sponsor host.

Feel free to use them, this is only a warning against starting off on the wrong foot.

Hi Entreri,

a) Where can I go in order to obtain a free adult hosting service? (if that is even possible?)

I would urge you to start off with virtual hosting - you can get a decent plan for $20 or less a month which will give you plenty of leeway to learn the ropes and build freesites and AVS sites. TGP'ing is a different ball game and will burn some serious bandwidth so a virtual account won't help you in this area but you should learn how to sell to the surfer anyways before venturing into the TGP game.

b) How can I add some content on the site for free (while still remaining legal of course) on an AVS site?

There are alot of sponsors out there that provide content for their affiliates to use but unfortunately this is overused and will often get your site rejected by site owners. Content is fairly cheap and will pay for itself. This is a business and like most businesses there are overheads - hosting, content, software etc.

c) What are the chances of making even a penny with one AVS site?

There is power in numbers.....the more sites you make the more chances you have of making money.

d) Is there a better strategy than going for an AVS site? (I've read that a TGP is not a good idea for a newbie)

The key is to diversify - don't focus on one aspect - focus on every possible traffic source available to you - but at the same time put a bit of effort into each one. There are plenty of traffic sources out there including but not limited to AVS Traffic, Link List Traffic, TGP traffic, Toplist traffic, Pic Post traffic, Traffic Trading, Link/banner Exchanges, Pop under/Exit exchanges, Link List Traffic, Search Engines, 404 traffic, Double opt in mailing lists, Traffic Brokers, Bookmark Traffic, PPC Search Engines. Being a newbie it's best to take it slowly and learn how to do each one correctly before expanding - but expand you will and when you do so will your paychecks with any luck at all.

Feel free to hit me up on ICQ - 167237491 - for any help you may need. I enjoy helping and a bit of a chat.

Hi Entreri

Welcome from another newbie and here is my 2 cents worth of knowledge.

I started about 6 months ago and went the AVS route, since it seemed easy.

I have been doing some money, even on free hosts, but I know I have to get my paid domain and hosting.

Traffic is the main issue, and we can't get good traffic on free hosts.

I am improving my skills at site design before venturing into paid hosting but will get there soon.

What I realised so far, concerning AVS, it's a strugle to make 7, 8 or 11 cent from a surfer.

So now am trying to make some free sites promoting sponsors which will pay $35 on signup.

My advise?

Don't give up. Keep on trying (I am) !!!

All the best

Bert

ps - sorry if this is confusing but that just how I feel with all this
