Question Getting Yahoo SE Traffic

Ok, so I've got several sites that are finally getting some love from the Big G. The inktomi bot crawls the hell out of them (much more than G-Bot), but I don't really see much of anything for Yahoo SE traffic.

I've been following the conventional wisdom of building up targeted link trades on every page, the primary site is a LL that's keyword rich from the get-go, I show a couple thousand backlinks in Yahoo, but still no love from the Yahoo SERPS.

Granted, I'm no SEO guru, but I've got keyword rich page title, H1 and H2 text as well as all the other text on the pages.

Anyone got any suggestions? I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall, and G is too fickle for me to count on it as my sole SE traffic source.

I'm no expert or anything but I think it has a lot to do with the competition between Google and Yahoo. They don't want their directories to be too similar. My site get traffic from Yahoo but none fro Google. Just my 2 cents..

Make sure that you have the desc and keywords metas in the head of your pages - Yahoo does use that - also the page content (called on-page factors) is king at Yahoo - make sure you are W3C compliant with your html, and keep making pages

The other factor if it is a LL, is that Yahoo is very strict about "looking like a linkfarm"
They have not included too many LLs that have been around for a long time as they have a little penalty given to a lot of us for looking like too much link trading

I did not know that, here I am thinking metas are a thing of the past.

Great info, thanks linkster.

Since the last Google dance I [un-]fortunately get twice as much Yahoo traffic than Google to both, my TGP galleries (which actually are now at Yahoo 52%, Altavista 19%, Google 16%), and my TGP, which since early February gets a nice number of hits for "Porn" from Yahoo

I used to have good Yahoo traffic, now it's totally opposite.. Google is lising me much higher, and Yahoo is not good.. some of my pages are not even listed on Yahoo at all, ones that used to be #4 or so.. :-/

Yahoo loves RSS/XML feeds... Hence the reason why it's very easy to just add a small blog targeting a keyword and having it rank very high.
