Newbie needs help taking over Established Linklist

Hi Webmasters!

I have been running an adult site for a number of years, but today I have an opportunity to take over a linklist site that is well-estblished with decent traffic. The operator walked three months ago, and he was using In-Link software? Is this any good? Any advice? Hosting Service gives me a great deal if I wish to take it over? Any assistance would be appreciated!

I've never heard of that particular script Psyman. That's not to say it isn't good...just that I haven't run across it in the wild

You'll probably get better advice if you post a link to the link site in question. Then folks can look it over and maybe even see who it's currently hosted with...make a better evaluation

Established link list eh? Too much time on your hands? Glutton for punishment?

Seriously though, post a link and we'll take a look

An established LL - I'd take it - and if you decide you don't want it - have the owner contact me

I am familiar with in-Link script...its very good yes, and its built to be more of a portal. However, you better look into this before you do anything because I believe they do not allow adult sites (the same goes for another one that I can't think of at the moment but was similiar to in-link). One will cancel the license if they find out their script is used for adult usage...Also, why was this person just walking away from their LL? Oh...also confirm that the script license can be transferred to a new owner (some don't even allow that).

With that being said, if you decide not to, I wouldn't mind taking a look at this one you are thinking about. But if you decide to take it over, be prepared to work LOTS and drink LOTS of COFFEE....lol...you're about to be a busy person

New/Old site

Wazza, NetGoonie, MrYum, and MadMAx Thank you for your thoughtful replies! The site in question is www.jackoffmaterial.com, and my professional relationship with the owner of the server/billing company that is resides on offered it up to me. The previous owner/operator got frustrated with some business issues and turned it over to the server/billing company guy, but he does not have the time or energy to operate it. As a private site owner about to kick off my new site, I thought generating traffic through this mode would be just the additional punishment that I was looking for!
My previous site was producing good $$$ for me, but a public outing in the local paper forced a shutdown and I lost my FT job over it! So, time I have on my hands, a few bucks I still have available for getting other things going. I believe I will likely have to rebuild with my own licensed software as the last owner left a huge list of detailed instructions, but nothing on the transfer of the software license to run it. It has been unattended to for 3 months, and the pass/user on the admin side was blocked after one day from access. Any support for software out there for this type of site? Drangonlist is all I have seen on the board so far today! Thanks for stepping up for a newbie everyone!

So who actually owns it at this moment? When you say Server/Billing guy, do you mean the webhost provider or is this a sponsor who currently has it? I doubt you would want to post the traffic stats this site generates in the open here but if you want to provide it, just send it as a Private Message to me. I'd be curious what this site is doing month to month.

Anyways, if you have been in the business for a longer period of time, I am sure you know how to determine if its a good deal or not. Go on your "Gut Feelings" because you can't go wrong with that. The software as you mentioned is In-Link (also called In-Portal) is a good script, and they do offer support, plus I believe they have a support Bulletin board. I still say, contact the makers of that script at In-Portal and ask if they allow license transfers to new owners but as much as I know some people would feel nervous about doing, is confirm that their script can be used for adult usage -- always best to be honest because nothing worse than to have investment and 1000's of hours of hard work be removed because they find out what its been used for and remove the license and tell you to remove their script.

If you cannot use this script for adult, you can still utilize the database and migrate it to a new LL or Directory script (this is a whole different topic on this to choose the best suited one for your needs and there is another thread on this one).

While I think about this, it would probably be best to buy your own license (providing you can use this for an adult site). You will obviously need the admin password to get into the current scripts admin section, or if that doesn't work, if you get access to the database, you should be able to locate it there. But best to get into the admin section to begin your work from there for the take over. Make sure no one else will have access or own anything except you if you take this one over. This includes hosting....unless you have a good relationship with the host provider where this site is now residing, I'd go with one you trust and have experience with.

If you have any concerns or questions, just post them here and everyone at GG will help you out to make sure you are looked after

If you have to buy another script they are only $100-400 and most people can import links and whatnot for you so that shouldn't be a big issue.
