Fuck I Hate IE
<rant> So I am building these freesites and I am very rusty. You have to remember a whole bunch of things including SEO, making a nice site, checking the links, etc. I am sure you know the drill.
I THINK I've got them done. I am a Linux guy and Microsoft is far from my mind but I remember that I have to check them in IE before submitting them. Okay, I take a peek in Internet Explorer in my version of XP in VirtualBox. Fucking hell! They look like steaming turds!</rant> Okay, back to work to make the fixes. I hate re-work! |

I fixed it. Seems IE doesn't like more than one <style> tag used in a cell at a time. I feel much better now.

I switched to Google Chrome a couple months ago & I love it. There's an app for it that allows you to look at a page in IE with the lick of a button, too, which is handy when reviewing/checking my own sites.

Although I dislike IE too, I disagree with this. We DON'T need a pile of identical browsers, we need choice, so people who prefer IE can use IE, and those of us who don't, can use something else. Remember, the most popular browser is IE, so if we try to get one standard that everyone wants, the result will be that Chrome and the various Mozilla browsers will look like IE, not the other way round.

You're right...as a regular user...but as a developer...I'm sure that every developer cursed Microsoft at some point.

You miss my point, I was saying that many people prefer IE (I cannot understand why, but about 45% of surfers prefer it) and saying "Microsoft should copy Chrome or Firefox" is saying "Fuck those people, they should be forced to use a browser that they don't like".

Plus people are just plain ignorant about computers. Over on the U-Verse board people bitch about the U-Verse branded browser that ships with the U-Verse install disk not realizing that they can use whatever browser they feel like. In fact there is no reason to run the U-Verse install disk at all. |

Well, yeah, the stupid ones do, and there are a lot of stupid people out there. But not as many as 45%. I mean, I'm so cynical about the rest of the human race that I have been accused of being a sociopath in the past, but even I don't believe that nearly half the planet are thickos. So some must actually prefer IE.

I'm actually surprised that only 45% of people use IE - based on my family members & their lack of computer/internet knowledge, that number should be MUCH higher
Other than webmasters, I think I know one non-IE user. |

I actually have a soft spot for ie... it has actually made me 1000's of dollars in my mainstream work - something along the lines of "My site looks shite - can you fix it please" - kerching

There has been a big jump in firefox users. I blame youtube. I have an old secondary laptop I use when sitting in the living room or traveling that has ie6 still on it. If for some reason I follow a link there it states they no longer support that browser and the first selection in their list to update is firefox, followed by chrome, ie8, safari and then opera.

If IE worked perfectly, than the other browsers wouldn't exist. It's true that people don't care what they have installed on their computers as long as they can view porn.
A fair option would be to let people choose the browser they like best during the installation of the operating system (if it were for me I'd exclude IE ) |
