Kids are great, Appu. You can teach them to hate the things you hate and they practically raise themselves now-a-days, you know, with the internet and all

Exclamation random pic rotation w/out refresh?

Just got a call from someone wanting to know if I can do a page with a picture that changes without refreshing the page or anything. The pictures are to be randomly pulled from a folder to which they want to be able to ftp additional pictures into. I need to let them know tomorrow, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Do they want the pics to change in quick succesion? eg every 30 secs, 2 mins etc? or is it a daily change type thing?

If it was the quick change option, then it would have to be run by java/javascript I believe

Thanks for the quick reply, Dave! It is a quick succession change that they're looking for. As I understand it, the pics are around 640x480 or so, and they want them to change every 15 to 20 seconds.

dgraf,

I'm going to have to display my computer illiteracy here...
I've seen iframe mentioned a lot, but don't know what it is. Any link to info that might be helpful? Thanks for your input!

By using the iframe element you can create a sub-window of desired position, size and feshion on your page and load an independet html page into it. The second html page will contain just the image and a refresh code within.

More info about inline frames here -

sounds to me like what you're looking for is a slideshow app. Do a search for them... heck, a quick look on the site that DD provided shows these http://freewarejava.com/applets/slideimage.shtml

this is the first one I clicked on http://www.anfyteam.com/anj/mosaic/mosaic.html
most auto ones tend to use some kind of transistion effect.
