Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and old people are useless

is meta now useless???

I keep hearing that search engines no longer use the meta tags or alt tags and all that stuff, and that I shouldn't even bother to optimise at all for search engines, because they either ignore it or penalise you for it!!!

Also the only way to get any where is with backlinks.

Has any body else heard this?

Cheers
Tim

SOME search engines no longer "use" meta tags.... but that doesnt mean they dont look at them.

ALT taqs are used by some search engines.

You should only be "penalised" if you use the wrong keywords or "spam" up your keywords.

Backward links are important.. but are only part of the whole equation.

Most search engine info is not as simple as the blanket statements you find posted about the place
