Running a link dump

I've got a spare domain name that would be great as a link [dump] site. How much checking do you have to do on the dumped links? Every time I've started any sort of trading site in the past I've done well until the cheaters find it. It then starts to use up too much time to be worth continuing. Do you have to check for exploits on the dumped links every day?

Is there an automated tool for that? Checking by hand is too time consuming.

I've got a TGP running UCJ and I got that up to 10k within a few days. It then got the attention of the cheaters, and it took over my life. Getting up at 3am to check for cheaters is not my idea of fun. Now I don't have any external trades, and just use it to filter my traffic and move surfers between my sites.

I thought it was good for my first site, but I realise that experienced traders move a lot faster than that.

I was really looking for some guidance on avoiding cheaters without making trading the centre of my life.

Link dumps are websites that let you dump your URL and sometimes a little commenting. The URL shows up somewhere on their site immediately or after the moderator approves it. Long lists of URLs are generated and displayed on the link dump sit.

As I understand it (I am new at using them), link dumps are for two purposes.

The first and most important is to generate backlinks for the SE spiders, boosting your search engine revelancy and therefore bosting your SERP. The second is that it's worth a few hits. Some link dumps have niches and act a little bit like toplists as far as I can tell.

Of course, alot of good webmasters say that overuse of link dumps that have been identified by the search engines as link farms can hurt your SERP more than it's worth.

It's a shame that SEs take these attitudes against the interests of surfers. If surfers didn't like and use link dumps, then nobody would bother running them.

Maybe it would be worth adding "noindex" to the dumped links.

Seems having a link dump is just asking for the spammers to abuse your site. A link dump is just that, people post links, it's too easy most times. With automated software, could get over run quite quickly. Look at FFA sites, same idea, and really nothing but spam.

Also, seems most of the traffic would be webmasters submitting their own stuff, no?

And ya, I'd say link dumps might be seen as link farms, not suppose to be a good thing.

It's seen by SE's more as a possible way to influence rankings in an un-eithical way, not really against surfers interests...
